Importing Fish

Say you bring fish from mexico and you fly back with them, but your flight stops at LAX and your final desitation is Vanouver, Canada.

Do you have to get any kind of permit for the USA?

Yeah, but I dont think USFWS cares. Im not 100% sure on this, because I never ship animals with a layover like this, but once it comes off the plane, I believe it needs to be inspected and released by USFWS, in the event it never leaves (due to unforseen circumstances, etc). If it were staying on the plane, I think it would be OK. But, to be honest, I am not 100% sure on that. I assume LAX? Contact the USFWS office there and they can answer.
 
If you check your baggage and it is with the same airline I would say no. If you carry it on then probably.
