Fish Freak
So I was at the LFS today and they had a "red" crab - $5.99. Of course the lady said that it was reef safe and like a nub I purchased it before doing research. Anyways, the closest I can think of is a fiddler but that just doesnt seem right.

Pretty much orangish/red with a blue underbelly

Possible ID and if its reef safe, thanks!

looks like a juvenile sally light foot. they're a red color when their babies :)

From what I am reading the sally lightfoot can be a real problem when they get bigger. Might send this guy to the refugium once I find him haha.

well good luck with that. just depends on whats in the tank and how well they're fed. they're really good scavengers but i took one out of my old tank that was 4 years old. he was getting pretty big and later found out that he ate one of my clowns.

The clownfish will either huddle against the sandbed or swim in place during night hours. well apparently my sally found him and was too strong for the little guy. if you can find him i would snatch him and put him in the fuge just to be safe

Man, after looking at all the pictures on google I can't find any sally's which look like mine.

I did catch him today and banned him to the fuge, he is not digging the sand at all ahahaa.

Anyways can I get some more opinions on this on possible species? Not that I dont believe you guys in saying that its a Sally Light Foot, I just cant find a picture of one that looks like mine.

Doesn't look like a Sally light foot. There is a salt water crab that is similar to a fiddler but I don't know anything about them

I'm not sure of the actual name but "red crab" comes to mind. Anyway, I believe this is a semi-terrestrial species (similar to a fiddler crab) that will need access to dry land to survive. Check out the Volcano Tank thread. I think he has the same species and may be able to point you in the right direction.

Thats how it was sold "red crab". Paid $5 for it. Since I have had him he has just stayed under a rock and never comes out. He was actually really easy to catch.

Obviously I cant provide him land so I need to find a home for him. Thanks for the input!

Ok here is a couple more pictures:

When I pulled him out I put him in a real small lid and filled it a bit with water. As soon as I set him down he scurried across my kitchen counter!! I think he liked being out of water.

He is very smooth, no hair.

Is there any way you can make something like that in your fuge. The water in that container will go bad fast.

Cool crab, hope it works out.

that looks like a fiddler crab like vacaville said. You could put that piece of LR in your fuge but let it stick out of the water a little like it is in the bucket and that could be his home, just saying. He looks a lot happier on that rock:)
