In-Line heaters

I am in the process of building my own aquarium. Final result, if all works out and the box stays together;), will be a 230 +- tank. Does anyone have any experience with those under-substrate heaters??? Can I use more than one unit at one time??? that one sounds like a no-brainer. Best question is probably, does anyone have a suggestion on heating that much water economically???

P.S. This will be a FW tank.

IMO the substrate heaters are a joke, especially if you are going to have a planted tank.... They are also overpriced. If you want to keep crap out of your tank, get a couple of Hydor ETH Inline Heaters. I think that you can get 350 watt units, with a tank that large, I would expect you would need more than one.

I don't know much about the substrate heaters but I too am against putting anything electrified in my display (HATE POWERHEADS).

I do realize it's going to take a few heaters to heat that kind of volume but I would (IMO) have many small heaters so if in fact one does go out you're still going to maintain some heat.

I may speak for myself but I thrive on rubber mats and ground probes. (Low voltage controls near the tank line voltage as far away as possible.GFCI_GFCI)
