In Wall 400g DT (600g+ System)

Hi Juan :wavehand:

I have been following your tank for quite some time...Of course it would never have happened without pics!

I hope everything goes well on getting fish back into your system. Keep your head up buddy!

Thank you very much for the encouragement words! :D
Really happy to have you on board.

I wanted to share some of the growth I have been having with my corals, at least I think I'm doing well here :)

Here is some of my Polipos:
The first pick you can see the size (Right frag) of the zoas when I got them:

And here is a picture from above, as you can see they are spreading quickly:
DSC_6305.jpg

Here is another (Which I don't have a reference), but the middle section of the rock there was nothing as well as some of the sides, I think it only came with 6 polyps, now it's beginning to extend, as it was on the sand it couldn't spread quickly, but now it's over the big rock so it can take a quicker growth:
DSC_6307.jpg

And my Montipora, which I got almost dead, even some pieces of it broke (This is the main shape difference between pics), but now you can see a second layer growing over and polyps extended:
Before:

And now:

It's not an amazing growth but at least is doing good and progressing.

Thanks for watching.

QT System

QT System

Here is my new design for the QT system, idea came from Jim's (Gimmito) own QT's (Thanks man).

Well, off to the concept:

Here are couple of perspective views of the whole system, as you can see, it will have a sump with a Skimmer and fully interconnected between each, problem with isolated tanks and even more, having multiple ones being ran at the same time, is that water quality can go bad really quickly, this obligates one to keep doing water changes constantly; these fish will need to be here for at least 4 to 6 weeks so water quality is essential.

QT-Render01.jpg

QT-Render01b.jpg

So, water gets pulled on the top center drain:
QT-Render03.jpg

Here is the rear section of all tanks:
QT-Render04.jpg

Each drain has an independent valve in case I need to isolate the tank:
QT-Render05.jpg

Water goes down and a couple of 4" socks will filter any detritus from the water:
QT-Render06.jpg

As you can see, the first baffle has just a lower opening, which allows for any bubbles to be caught before going into the main skimmer chamber, after this, skimmer treats water, heaters, probes or anything needed to treat the tanks above is placed in this chamber also, then some baffles and return pump pushes water back:
QT-Render08.jpg

There will be a UV which forces 100% of water coming in from the sump to go through it:
QT-Render09.jpg

Then, each tank has a return pipe with ball valve valve so I can control amount of flow going in:
QT-Render10.jpg

Each end pipe from the return has a 45 degree elbow, what this will do is push water to the lower front of the tank, any detritus on the QT floor will be blown up and probably sucked away by the drain pipe, at least, any Ick cyst will have a difficult time adhering to the QT floor like this.
QT-Render12.jpg

I know having multiple tanks interconnected can bring other amounts of problems as inter tank disease transfer, but, as I can isolate each, I can treat every tank in a different manner.

Also, there will be a pre-QT routine which consists of a FW with Methylene Blue dip so they can drop any unwanted parasites and go into the QT "Clean".

Thanks for watching.

Great vision and great planning.
Your computer rendering is exceptional and so self explanatory.
Your tank is coming up very nicely and already had some happy corals.
Do keep updating so we all can learn more from you.
I'm also just starting to stock corals in my new build, so I'm sharing your excitement at this stage coz it's the most exciting part of the build, right :)
Your rendering of the vortech pump placement is just cool. How do you find the flow now? Any trouble of the sand being blown around ?
What settings are they in currently?

Sorry for asking so many questions :)
I am using korallia pumps for wavemakers in my tank at present.
I'm contemplating on getting a vortech MP10 or MP60 for my tank.
Which one will you suggest and could you recommend how I can place it my tank?
Currenly I can afford only one vortech pump :)
Hoping for your suggestions in my thread.
Thanks a lot and apologize for the big post

Happy Reefing!!
:)

Thank you very much for your kind compliment, just visited your thread and wow, you got a beautiful system, congrats. :)

With my pumps, I'm still not too happy with positioning, basically the configuration shown on my position chart is the correct one but I need to see for example where in the back glass I need to place the MP40's and on the side the MP60's (Height and horizontal alignment), at the end, I think of course each tank is different based on the rockscape configuration and coral placement.

I do have some blown sand, this is why I need to place the MP40's at least 6 to 7 inches above sandbed to avoid this, I tried today moving one of these a little lower (4" above sandbed) and the result was a big sand hole beneath lol.

I'm really happy with these pumps, I think they are the best in the market, the ability to randomly control flows gives you a lot of advantage in coral husbandry.

I will post my pump recommendation in your thread.

Thanks so much for the compliment for my humble setup. A compliment coming from someone like you with such great planning and visualization skills is a big confidence booster for me. :spin1:

Lol yea the Vortechs I'm sure are powerful and can blow the sand around if not placed right :headwally:
But based on your designs I'm sure you will hit the perfect combo!!

Thanks for visiting my thread and for your kind suggestions for me.

Cheers Juan

Thank you very much :)

Great looking setup, keep up the great work!

Thank you very much, been following your build as well which is a true inspiration. :)

Well, here are the new toys:

First, the Sunlight Supply Light Rack 3.5 which travels at a speed of 6rpm, It came well packed with the motor and a 2 meter rail:

Here is the new AI, still packed, I will leave it like this until I get everything setup:

Bought three (one already installed) 7" Filter socks, I think I will not have to change it so often from now on:

And my new Used Super Reef Octopus XP-1000 HOB, in red acrylic, this is after giving it a thorough cleaning, used vinegar, hot water and lot of patience:

Before cleaning:

Still pending my CA Reactor which supposedly was shipped today and I got to get a PM1 Module with Temp and PH Probe too.

What I'm beginning to be out of is connections on my EB8's modules, I think I will need to get a 4rth one.

LOL, thanks Jim!

I think this is definitely the reason everybody is in this hobby, Christmas all year round, lol :D

 Juan
Your equipment choice is very cool and very rational!
The AI LED is looking excellent even when packed :D Can't we have a peek inside :spin1:

Skimmer is looking clean as new!! And it looks really well built. Was it running on one of your systems? Or did you buy it used?

Hope alll your equipments arrive fast and can't wait all these hooked up. I really enjoy the equipment part of this great hobby as much as the husbandry part.

Thank you very much! :)

Skimmer bought it used here at RC, I think it was a pretty good deal.

Will post pics once rest of equip arrives.

Thank you for stopping by.

thank you, beautiful tank.

on the AIs, did you go with the stock optics, or all 40, or all 70?

thanks again

All my Ai's have stock optics, 70's on the outer led's and 40's on the inner ones.

The light spread for my rockscape is great, though, I will be adding another one in the near future so I can really cover the end sections of the tank where it is somewhat dark right now.

I have seen a full propagation of my zoas and SPS are doing great under these lights.

Thank you for visiting :)

As of now, I'm preparing again my shelf structure which will hold the QT and FT, what I'm doing to it right now is

1. Adding support to the center section so wood doesn't bend and generate stress to the tanks.
2. Will paint all structure pure white so it matches the fishroom and looks cleaner.
3. Re shuffled the shelf arrangement so the QT's and FT will fit better.
4. I'm going to install Formica to the wooden boards so no humidity will penetrate into my tanks.

Here are some pics of the middle support adding, I will add more as soon as I keep advancing on the structure:

Also, added a couple of new SPS corals,

First one is a Stylopora Purple frag, (Actually LFS gave me this one as a gift, super LFS :))

Second one is a Birdnest SPS coral frag:

My actual Acro which as of now I don't know what class it is, it has developed some white on its tips, is that growth?
DSC_6322.jpg

Wow you are also good in welding stuff :D
That's what you call versatility!!
Those shelves are coming up pretty nice.

Congrats on those new corals!!
About the white on the tips, it's not quite clear from the photo. But make sure there is no Alk swings and also about light acclimatization. Alk swings and also too bright light too soon can lead to SPS go white.

Everything seems gelling in... Keep it up and waiting for your updates :)

Happy Reefing!!
