there are no rules in reef keeping.
with every posting of hard fast rules, there are generally two-fold number of responses from reefers who have broken these rules with equivalent success rates. to newbies like myself, this creates much confusion when the expectation entering the hobby is that there are actual rules that could be put into a relatively simple reefing bible handbook and having a successful reef is basically learning these rules, purchasing the right equipment, and applying these basic methodologies. this is not the case and it took me awhile to realize this.... especially after posting a simple question like 'what is the right temperature for my tank' or 'do i need a UV sterilizer' and a couple hours later your thread is 10 pages long with an argument and references to different temperature variations of natural sea water in your thread!
