Indesisive Frogspawn

I've had my froggie frag for about 2 months now. About a month after obtaining the bugger from BlueZooAquatics, he started to split. He's always had good PE and lookin' good. He formed two distinct mouths, and looked like any day I would be expecting him to finish the job. Well, last night I looked into my tank and I swear that his two mouths have fused back together into one larger mouth. Is it possible for corals to 'change their mind' about splitting like this? Suggestions anybody?

55g, 260 watt PC,

Nitrate 10 ppm
Ammonia 0ppm
S.G. 1.023 - 1.024
KH 9 - 11
Calcium 450 - 500 mg/L

Mostly LPS in this tank, but does contain a Kenya Frag and 2 Xenia Frags, along with an asortment of shrooms and zoo's.

I've had a ricordia do the same thing.

Yeah, I think my candy cane did the same thing when I went away for a week and my roommate "took care" of the tank. The less-intensive care may have produced conditions unfavorable to a split.

OMG the nitrate level---that urgently needs to come down. s/b 0 or close to it. Your other levels are ok. But the nitrates might be behind it.

I thought the nitrate may have something to do with it, but I've been informed from many sources that certain LPS (euphyllia in particular) could thrive with nitrates as high as 20ppm. I did start up a cheato refug. and my nitrates have dropped from 20 down to 10.

I doubt nitrates is the problem. 10 is not really bad for most corals. I've only had a handful of days under 10 and have spent most of the time at 20-30 with no ill effects on my frog or torch.

Even though he seems to have stopped splitting, I took a good look this morning, he was fully extended, looked good, and I swear he was smiling at me.
