Thank you for your post. Further information on the care level and environmental requirements for the Indian Flameback Hybrid Angelfish can be found in the “Quick Stats†chart in the item description. If you have any further questions on this fish, please let us know and we would be happy to check into it for you.
Thanks Mike. That was the page I came across this hybrid initially then the pair was listed. I was hoping to learn more in terms of whether they are common/rare and depth they are usually found. Any additional info will be appreciated. Sorry, I should have been more clear on the post.
Thank you for contacting us. We apologize we misunderstood your question. Centropyge acanthops is generally found at depths of 8 to 40 meters. Centropyge flavicauda is found at a depth of 10-60 meters. This hybrid of them is still somewhat uncommon in the hobby.
We apologize we were unable to find much information on the hybrid themselves. We were able to find some good information on the different species in a book called A Guide to Angelfishes & Butterflyfishes by Gerald Allen, Roger Steene, and Mark Allen.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us.
I would like to add a little more information about the Indian Flameback.
Stacie is correct that this is an uncommon fish. It is at this time found only in one atoll in the Maldives at a depth of about 95 to 110 feet.
Some think it is a regional variant of Centropyge flavicauda, while others believe it is a cross between C. acanthops and C. flavicauda. DNA testing is in the works and should take place very soon to determine its true identity.
