indoor shark pond

First of all round tank. . And second a little more then twice the length of the animal for depth more like 4 times the animal I would consider more appropriate. .. so more like a 96x 96...

I would have no intentions to pay for such a tank. . Nor would I call it a shark tank if I didn't intend to keep sharks in it..

As for my tank I have 1 5g tank. ...and one 1" damsel in it.

Not being a hater nor do I appreciate the snide remarks when nothing I said was was wrong. ..
to reach their own I guess. ..I admire you building a larger tank for larger fish though rather then allowing them a stressful life banging into walls in a tank to small

96x96 for a round tank? Does this mean 96in in diameter and 96in in height? That is pretty high. How about oval or race track shaped? Do they not work? Anyway you are wrong in your advice and math. not all sharks need round tanks.

You say that a shark needs 4x length and 2x width. A bali catshark obtains a size of about 1.5 ft. This will need a 6ft length tank with a 3 ft width. Which his build surpasses.

I am sure he had and hopefully still has the intention of getting a shark and that is why he put that title. But have some members who don't know what they are talking about, giving bad information and trying to guilt him into thinking he is a demon for wanting a shark. That is why he went back on the idea.

You should enjoy your 5 gallon tank with a damsel and leave the big tanks and big fish to people who know what they are talking about and handle it.

What experiences do you have with sharks and large tanks?

To the OP reef sites are a terrible place to get advice on building a shark pond. I know the few shark people that are here will agree with me.

I don't need a big tank to know what I am talking about...obviously I did not mention anything about the hieght of the tank so you can keep your two cents worth of insight to yourself. Your ability to read appears to be as good as your knowledge of me...ihave taked to plenty of people about shark tanks and you have no idea what my knowledge of sharks is...and yes to me it is inhumane to have any species of shark in a tank with square corners and barely enough room for him to turn around...so yes I would say a minimum 8' diamter...as for race track that is also a terrible idea as it would likely be impossible for him to turn around in...whatever....take your thirty posts and far superior intelect and reefing knowledge toa forumt hat cares for your attitude...

I asked for clairification of what 96x96 means. By definition a circle has no corners and the same diameter no matter where you cut through it. By the way you wrote the measurements 96 x 96 means a 96 unit diameter by 96 unit height. You never labeled you numbers with units so I am not sure if it is 96 meters, 96 feet or 96 kilometers. I am pretty sure I am reading this right. Maybe someone else can chime in.

You are right you don't need a big tank to know what you are talking about. You don't know what you are talking about with a small tank. You can read all the fourms you want but you will get a lot of bad info. You can talk to as many people as you want but nothing beats first hand experience.

Can you please enlighten me why sharks can't have corners? You statement about sharks unable to turn in a race track shaped home is wrong. Who are these experts you speak with? A race track shape is preferred over a circular shape pond.

You also stated that the shark should have 4x its body length in tank length and 2x width. By those standards which are a good refrence point there are many sharks avalible to the OP which fit those requirements. Are those requirements no good for you anymore? Did your requirements change to 8ft diameter pool only round? No corners or racetracks?

Planed plywall tops, wood filled the screw holes and installed moldings. Also made an L with 2x4s in corners for stability and to tie walls together and sides.

So when is the black tip going in?!

Lol sorry just poking fun at what has happened here.

Good looking build, tagging along for more updates later!

Alprazo, I would line it with fiberglass or another type of liner, but the wife is pregnant,(fumes would be bad in our house) and I cant take this monster thing outside and then line it. The next project I will try, especially since I am going to want to make a display tank with GLASS! Till then liner it is. I am going to install liner then put braces and supports on, so the wood in pics are temp for braces.
My plan is to run 2x6x8 across the top and tie the 2x4 rails together up top. and then 2x4x99" along the sides tieing the top walls together and then 4 2x4x51" braces along both corners and two middle supports. The beams that will be closest to water I will seal, or use the liner run off to staple to undersides and same for exposed wood. Ill see whats exposed and what to do, The water line will not be that close. I am ordering 3 1.5" bulkheads pvc sch 80, decided to go with 1.5" over 2" I reinforced the wall I will be drilling for Drains. I am also planning on making a eggcrate style box to cover the drains inside the tank so ANY inhabitants do not get stuck to drains.

I finished fiberglassing one about 1 month ago. Still smells. Congrats and agree that fiberglassing would be a bad idea for her. Always duplicate your intakes with a Tee so that there is no suction issues with large fish covering the whole intake.

Ty, so if I make a 3dimensional eggcrate box so to speak in the whole corner, you feel that would work, or not be a good idea? sorry for awful paint mock up, but best I could, it wont be just a solid piece of eggcrate I was thinking of making a box like an overflow box out of eggcrate

I loosely installed liner, after installing underlayment. I still need to drill the hole for the bulkheads, I just want to make sure the diameters match up.

Fill tank first. Then drain to below where you want bulkheads and then put thmn in. If you place the bulkheads before filling, it will pull on the bulkheads. The pull could cause a tear or pulling out of the bulkhead causing a leak. THe same goes for a window if you ever want to install one.

Good Idea, I was thinking of doing the same type of thing, I definitely was thinking about doing a dry run before starting a fill of this thing with ro water! I will have to make a temporary brace for bowing though since I was going to do that after I had the liner in place. Ty again alprazo for all the advice

The build looks great. If you want a shark get a shark, if you want 2 sharks get 2 sharks. Good luck with your endeavor. If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask me.
