Infected live rock

My tank crashed and I'm starting over. My tank was infested with Monti Nudibranchs and I suspect ich. Should I toss the live rock or is there a way to sanitize it?

A little peroxide washdown should get anything on the surface. I'd repeat it in a few days to get any eggs that hatch, though they might not. Live rock is live throughout, wherever water soaks to, so its functionality should survive. But you might wait for a variety of suggestions.

I've heard of some people bleaching the rock, or a long peroxide soak in a bucket with lid may work also. I've read that some pests can live on rock out of water for quite some time, so simply drying the rock for a while would be too risky IMO.

Safety note: don't bake or boil the rocks. there have been many cases of this where something released toxins when dieing and cause health problems for anyone nearby.

Personally, I think I'd soak the rock in a bucket with bleach for a few days, then rinse well with water, and soak a few times over the course of a few days or more until they no longer smelled at all like bleach, then air dry to make sure anything residual was evaporated.

Like Sk8r said, wait for a variety of suggestions. Especially from someone who has successfully gotten rid of pests on LR.

A 1/3 blech, 2/3 tap water solution will kill everything. Soak it for a day, rinse well, then soak it in RO/DI water with Amquel or any of the other ammonia neutralizing products, then sun dry for a few days.

Why do t you just let the tank sit as is for 72 days. Seems like ich and pest will be dead plus your tank will be fully cycled ready to go

I saw a video from melev a couple days ago that recommended leaving rock in a blacked out container with circulation for several weeks. Not sure if this solves for ich, but it supposedly takes care of a host of different pests while maintaining the bacteria.

This is a restart. Everything needs to be sanitized and the tank restarted. From what I understand the nudibranch eggs can survive for maybe up to a year. There is no proven way to eliminate them entirely from the system.

Yes I agree little research on how long they can live without a food source is out there. So the unknown I would probably restart too. Maybe next time think about getting a wrasse to help keep they levels in check if one does slip by you next time. I would bleach soak in neutralizer then let air dry

I did have a wrasse but he didn't take much interest in them. I was doing manual removal and that worked for a few days but then the eggs hatched and they were right back at it.

I did learn that QT'ing corals is just as important as QT'ing fish. On a positive note I'd been wanting to upgrade to a rimless tank and I should have it in a few days.

yes thats why i have 4 tanks. keep both tanks Every coral goes into my 80 gallon frag tank first before i put it into my 265. honestly dipping corals i feel isnt safe enough for me i feel it mostly kills pods and bristleworm

I did some experiments with the nudibranchs and reef dips and it had no effect on them.
