info on pyramid snails (sp?)

I found some last night on 2 maxi's I have.
Need to do some reading and brush up on getting rid of them.
I have 37 clams-- this could be expensive, if not caught quickly!!
I had a leapord wrasse before, he did well keeping small snails down.. I am looking for one now.

the best way to get rid of them is manual removal. remove the clams a few hours ofter lights out and brush the shell well, if there sitting on sand remove what was under them also. do this 3x a week for 2 months even if you dont see any keep doing it. after 2 months you can slow down to once a week for at least another month then just check them periodically. you can also fill some tupperware containers with sand and place the clams in there and when you brush them replace the sand

The reason I looked in the first place was--- After lights out, one of the maxi's just didn't look "right" .. It looked like it was dead, Gaping open and could see thru the "mouth",thru foot and see sand! It had @7 snail on its foot. on it so I cleaned it and turned the lights on. It reacted well, so I left lights on all night. Looked good this morning also. Found 1 on a baby maxi's foot, and one on another teardrops mantle..
Guess I will just have to add another chore to the list

I hope someone post pic's.. My camera didn't do well. They look like small grains of rice.. found at bissel opening (foot) of clam. They suck the juice (life ) out of clams :eek2:

Hey Charlie, you might want to check at the top of shell where mantle extends out as well. Sometimes they hide out on bottom while lights on and move up to the top at night and hide in the scutes(?) and drain from the mantle as well. My radiant wrasse made short work of the few I had. The brush works the best as mbbuna stated.

Wayne- mbbuma,, I am finding 1-2 every 2-3 days... And only seeing them on my maxima's

yup i have some pyramid snails. i wake up for school before the lights go on, is it ok to brush them then? i noticed some clear what i assumed to be eggs on the shell, so i poped them. and i went out and picked up a 6 line the other day to help.

i wouldn't pop the egg mass. brush it away(out of the tank). pyrams feed at night that why you want to inspect the clam at night, wrasses can help some but wrasses aren't active at night when the pyrams are feeding

because its an egg sack with multiple eggs in it. if the eggs are close to hatching they could all still live. if you remove the clam from the tank and remove the egg sack you dont have to worry about that

well i have been checking every day, well morning before lights on. and havent found any for a while now. will continue with it tho. i do think the 6 line is helping, he so soooo fat.
