Info on wet dry trickle filter

Good ole Bob I wonder what he is doing these days or even if he is alive. He is the one who really opened up the hobby for me. I used to have a long distance bill (when that was a thing way before cell phones) that was in the hundreds talking with him. He then introduced me to fishnet and things really broke free for my knowledge in the hobby.
Bob Goemans was a very smart aquarist who lives in I think Arizona or New Mexico. He came to my house probably in the 80s and we discussed fish, corals and his thing, live sand.
If he is still alive, he is in his 90s.

Wish I could have met him in person. But, then again, there’s many hobbyists I feel the same way about.

I only ever used 1 and took the bio balls out. Replaced with live rock rubble and used pillow fluff. It worked out well for me back then, but since that tank i have went the refugium route and never looked back.

My current tank came with a big wet/dry. I cut it apart and turned it into a nice sized refugium. IMO the refugium has served me much better. The only thing I think is a bit of a hassle in my current setup is using filter bags instead of a tray with pillow fluff.i hate having to wash filter socks instead of just tossing the fluff in the trash.

What it was and what it ended up as
