I'm new to reefkeeping. It's going to be a long while before I have anything other than LR and LS cycling, so I'm not asking this because I want to run out and buy something. It's just that I've seen pictures of golfball coral (Favia Fragum) and it seems like it would be ideal for small aquariums (heads averaging about 2"-4" in size). I've never seen it offered for sale so I imagine there are probably reasons. Is it a protected species? Is it difficult to keep? Does it damage other tank inhabitants? I've only found a couple articals about raising it from larva. Does anyone here know anything about it?
