Insane Red Rock Anemones

Just got a few insane Red Rock Anemones. The even cooler part is the link to the dive video when they were collected in Florida. It is not my video, but I did get permission to post the link. First time to get a coral and be able to say I watched a video of where they where collected on the day they where collected. The diver then let me cherry pick another video he made the next day of all collected anemones.

Here is the dive video.

I am really hoping they spawn one day. If there ever do I will update the thread.

Lovely nems! Do you have any info on prompting spawning? I've got four and am hoping they'll breed for me.

Several people have asked where I got these anemones. I bought mine from a seller on eBay. After I bought a couple he told me he was going diving soon and was going to have more to choose from. Sure enough the next week he sent me the link to the dive video and a video showing what he found. If you want to see some really nice rock anemones watch the video.

His contact info is in the profile of the video. He currently has auctions on ebay. I believe he is a LFS in Miami, VIPReef. I have no relations with him other than this purchase, but I will say he was a good seller.

It finally happened. Babies! I turned the pumps off tonight and had the actinics on looking in the tank. All around one of the red rock anemones I could see small red dots in the sand. I pulled one out and it was a tiny little rock anemone. I tried taking pictures the but they are so small they don't show up well. I think there are at least 20 babies! They are only a couple of mm's. With out the actinics making the red pop I would never have seen them. I will try again tomorrow to get a picture.

Glad you got them to breed can you give us some more info about your setup for them I just got 5 very nice rfa's plus found 3 babies hoping to do the same so far just feeding mysis once a day with good light only had them for 3 weeks thanks.

Here is a picture of one of the little rock anemones. The red center glows under the actinics. Hard to get a good picture with an iphone.

I have a large propagation system. I under skim and run high nutrients. I keep the Alk around 8kh with a large Ca Reactor. I have mostly softies and anemones. These anemones are under 400watt Metal halides and low flow. Recently I started feeding the anemones again. I feed frozen krill broken into smaller pieces mixed with Fauna Marine Ricordea food. I target feed each adult anemone one piece directly on its tentacles about once a week.

I never knew there were so many colors out there

I have... I've been kinda hooked on these for awhile. They're easier to keep and don't wander from what I've seen so I'm trying to build up a collection of some of the hotter specimens :)

I was watching another video online by tidal gardens and he said he has them spawn but the babies disappear...how are yours faring as of now?

these guys be reef safe , meaning i love my blenny !!!

What type of blenny........ I have 7 large rock anemones (5-7") and all my fish know to stay clear of them. Instinct maybe. I have a lawnmower over 2 yrs with them and its going strong. My shrimp are the bravest though, they try to steel food from them often.

Dread keep us updated on that! I jist contacted my diver in Florida to let him know I want about a dozen of the best he can get me. I plan to keep them for a breeding community.

Yesterday's count was around 25 Babies. They are all over so it is hard to keep up with them. They are slowly growing bigger.

It happened again so I thought I would update the thread. Last time I counted about 40 babies total. I still have about 20, but they are still small and hard to find. I think the other half ended up in the sump and got lost. Tonight I found 5 new babies all around the base of one of the originals. I had not target feed them in months, but started feeding live black worms a couple of weeks ago. The rock anemones and BTAs love them. Actually everything in the tank loves the worms including the fish, torch, and frog spawn. Last time the babies kept showing up for days. I will update the thread if more show up.
