Insane Red Rock Anemones

Thanks for sharing any pics? I had 2 of my bigger rfa's release sperm earlier this summer jun 26 but no babies I have 8 rock flowers only 2 are what I consider adults guessing males, the 2 that spawned. I actually subscribed to your thread a while back so I saw this morning you updated and had more babies congrats! While making dinner tonight looked at the rfa tanks and noticed one of the males was releasing sperm again for about 20-25 minutes so hoping for the best I noticed 2 of the other rfa responded a bit diffrent during spawning they stretched out and spread wide open btw those 2 had grown a lot since last spanning very close to the 2 adults makes

More baby rock anemones

More baby rock anemones

I wanted to update this tread. These rock anemones are like rabbits. They have probably had 200 babies in the last year that I have counted. Of the 5 original anemones I believe 4 are female and one is male. I have found the babies around all of them except one. If I don't catch them in the first few weeks then they disappear and are never seen again. I have a multi tank system with a common sump and occasionally I'll find one in another tank, but not often. When they first show up in the course live sand they are easy to catch. I get a rock and put it in a cup full of water. As I catch the anemones I drop them on the rock. After 10 or 20 are on the rock I just leave them in the cup for an hour or so until they attach. Once they attach to the rock then I can put them back in the tank and they seem to stay. Here is a picture of a rock from today. I count 16 tiny rock anemones in the picture. They look like a bunch of glowing dots under the actinics. The colors get better as they get bigger.

Just got a few insane Red Rock Anemones. The even cooler part is the link to the dive video when they were collected in Florida. It is not my video, but I did get permission to post the link. First time to get a coral and be able to say I watched a video of where they where collected on the day they where collected. The diver then let me cherry pick another video he made the next day of all collected anemones.

I am really hoping they spawn one day. If there ever do I will update the thread.

Wow.

Very Very Nice.

Since the Diver got them for you did you get them Cheap?

I am going to watch the Video now (Also very cool).

It finally happened. Babies! I turned the pumps off tonight and had the actinics on looking in the tank. All around one of the red rock anemones I could see small red dots in the sand. I pulled one out and it was a tiny little rock anemone. I tried taking pictures the but they are so small they don't show up well. I think there are at least 20 babies! They are only a couple of mm's. With out the actinics making the red pop I would never have seen them. I will try again tomorrow to get a picture.

Awesome!

Are you supposed to feed the Babies?

I bought a couple of them on eBay auctions and paid full price for them. After I contacted the seller and we talked, he discounted the others. Basically i got a discount for buying 5. I don't remember what i paid, but it was fair, and much less than they sell for these days.

You don't have to feed them but they grow much faster if you do. I have most of the small ones in a 29 gallon with no fish. There is no feeding and so they haven't grown at all in months.

The original five are in a larger system and continue to spawn regularly.

I think growth rate is directly related to feeding. The last few months have shown no growth since I set up the 29 gallon. My largest one is just over a year old and is around 1/2 dollar size. Tonight I put in a small fish and fed them. We will see if they start growing faster with a new feeding schedule.
