Hello Everyone,

I am new at this and not sure if I am doing what I need or doing it right.

My DT is fairly new, about 8 weeks so I am not expecting miracles or trying to create the perfect reef tank. I just want my tank inhabitants to be healthy and happy.

My 1st question is naming what I have and what needs are required for their health? I added a few picks for reference.

My 2nd question is concerning my water parameters. Here is what I have tested.

Ph - 8.27
Ammonia/Nitrate/Nitrite - 0ppm
Calcium - 8.25
Magnesium - 1300
Alkalinity - meg/l - 4.75 or dkh - 13.3

Thanks for looking
Tom G

Sorry I don't know the name of the mushrooms you have. The other coral looks like a Kenya tree. The alk of 13.3 is really high, and I don't know what calcium of 8.25 means. Your calcium should be around 400. Are you dosing anything? If so you should stop.

mushrooms are ricordea
ph ok
nitrate???? softs can have a some nitrate can't stand poor tanks
calcium ?? has to be 400-450
magnesium... around 1430
Alkalinity : 11-13 ok

Sorry about that, my calcium is 410. Not sure why I typed in 8.25

I am not dosing anything at this time. The setup is very new and the only changes made to system is through water changes, skimming, filtering and carbon.

If my alkalinity level of 13.3 is too high, how do I lower it?

Thanks for the help,
Tom G

The alk will come down on it's own over time, so I wouldn't do anything to try and lower it. You could do more harm then good trying to lower it. I could be wrong but I don't think your mushrooms are ricordea. They look like some sort of spotted mushroom, hopefully someone can chime in on that.
