Installing the holding bracket for the 6000

Hi Stream users.

The instructions are useless; that is, beyond my comprehension regarding the "holding device" for the 6000. I just knew one of my three degrees should have been in engineering!

I have not even approached the tank with the device yet. Here are my issues.

1) Parts list not provided. It would seem there is a part I am missing. On page 12 there is a horizontal device (looks a wee bit like three cars of a train) with three holes in it. It is labelled with a 2 in a circle, but is no where referenced in the written instructions. I have nothing that looks like that. Do I need it? The handsome diagram does not make it clear just what it's used for in any case.

2) None of the screws I have will fit (if indeed that's where they are supposed to go) into the part which on page 12 is the vertical rectangle piece with two holes and is found to the left of the screw labelled with a 4 in a circle in the same diagram on page 12.

3) Regarding the suction cup which is a part included with 3000.244 (parts content list IS included here): is the nut supposed to fit inside the "nipple" of the suction cup, as in the language on page 17, "...press the M5 nut (4) into the suction cup...". If so it will not do so as it is too large and/or the material the suction cup is made of is to rigid to allow the nut to be housed in the small cavity, again if that's the idea.

Sigh. Maybe I'll wait for the magnets. So I have a question about those -- with they allow horizontal swivel of the Stream? One of the reasons I haven't used my own glue the Stream to a magnet solution is I want to point the pump corner to corner and that will require swivel.

Anybody who has been through the mounting phase of the Stream?

This idiot could use your guidance :)

Thanks in advance.

I include some pics. It isn't very difficult just try to follow the pics. The clamp is reminiscent of a wood clamp when finished. The nut goes into the suction cup and yes it takes a fair amount of effort, it is easier if you place it on the screw and then you have more to push on. Give it a try and if you have a specific problem with assembly let me know.

OK, go to my gallery and I will put the photo in ther as the last one.

Roger, hi.

Thanks, as usual!!, for being so helpful.

It ain't easy having almost no spatial ability :)

ssheipel, at least you had some sort of instructions! I didn't have the 3000.244 kit (as after waiting for the Streams to come in, now Marine Depot is sold out of the mounting kits...!), and Roger had told us that the parts would now be included with the Streams... Thankfully Roger has posted lots of instructions and pictures in the past, so a quick RC search on STREAMS MOUNTING gave the me the right info..

I agree that it's not easy and frustrating at first... That picture Roger just post on this thread is great though... My problem now is that the mounting is real gittery and more than a little unstable...

I can't wait for the magnetic mounting devices to get here...!

P.S. Inserting the small nut into the suction cups (needlenose pliers or not) is a real *%#@&!! The nut flew across the room more than once...!

HA! Yah, I still don't have the damn thing put together. There are two parts and I believe one is meant to fit inside the other, but will only do so if they are weirdly offset and then they don't sit flush against the tower part (speaking of "gittery")...

I can't help but think about Rolls Royce shipping their cars with Tinkertoy wheels that you have to assemble, without any real instructions :) :) :)

Thanks for the search term. I'm off to use that -- my own search attempts didn't come up with much!

I see you have the same light I've got. How do you like it?

Ah, and orchids. I gave up growing Orchids! 57 of them in a 750 square foot apartment left little room or time... I need to find a partner who will buy me a greenhouse and a 500 g aquarium :)

Thanks for your comments.

Steve, I gotta say I had not put the mounting bracketts together right, and once I got the horseshoe shaped piece (that the power cord snaps into) oriented the right way, it is not jittery anymore... I still won't say that I am crazy over the mounting, but it works... I will be much happier when the magnetic mounts come out and I can trash this "tinkertoy" mounting. I do understand though, as Roger has mentioned, Tunze had to make this fit a LOT of different tanks all over the world.

The ASL is cool indeed, huh? I have been lusting after a German fixture for years, after living with the horticulture "loveliness" of the American fixtures (PFO, SLS) for too many years. The ASL just looks so dang sleek and sexy, and the Vossloh Schwabe magnetic ballasts are the bees kneesââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Âcompact and BRIGHT...! Many have told me that the VS German ballasts are the best money can buy... My ASL tends to hum too loudly sometimes, but over everything else in the system, it's not too bad... Does yours hum too?

I see on the other thread that you got your Streams mounted up, which is great. Don't get too frustrated with Tunzeââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬ÂI have bought a lot of German aquaria goods over the last 15 years, and they often have poor English instructions. Tunze is far from the worst...! I think it's helped me to become more mechanical and quick on my feet...

Ah, the orchids... I have a 750 square foot studio apartment as well, and converted my patio to a makshift greenhouse four summers ago... At one point I had 150 orchids, and most were doing well (the Paphs and Phrags have always been a challenge for me. Catt's grow like weeds here in California)... I sold most of the larger ones last summer on Ebay for a fortune (some of the specimen sized Catts in 10" pots sold for $250+), and have been slowly selling more and more as I have less and less time for them...

Like you I need a partner, a house, and a BIG greenhouse...! I want to have one of those reef setups that I see here on RC where the huge sump and fuge are plumbed remotely in the "fish room"... Awesome...!

Bon chance...!
