Instant Ocean Salt bulk order

The Critter has offered to do a bulk order of IO salt for us, and the price will depend on the number of buckets we order. It will be a very good price so if interested, post here how many buckets you might want. and as we see how many buckets we might be getting then we can get an accurate price.

The plan is to distribute the order at the frag expo in Jan. so we will have a good 3 weeks to see how much interest there is.

As you know the Critter always takes care of us, so you know the price we get will be below the already 10% off we get and the more buckets we order the cheaper the price will be! Thanks everyone

How much does a bucket of salt make? Sorry i am just now starting to mix my own water so i dont know.

160 gallons

what's a bucket sell for regularly??? does it have a "shelf-life"??? if not, you could prob put me down for 1 or 2 buckets

one of these days, i need to buy a ro/di & start making my own saltwater, but since i have only had the 2 nanos, it's been easier to just get the 5-gallon buckets from the critter when i needed it....but i have once the 50 is up & running that will change

chris (owner) is one of the nicest guys i have ever had the pleasure of dealing w/....non-owner chris is also a nice guy & always avail for advice & suggestions

i feel lucky to be close to such a great place to deal w/

I don't think you can beat Ebay's price of 40.00 for 200gal mix and thats the regular price! for IO salt if you bought a lot maybe Sean could do better, His prices are always cheaper than the Critter And that's a fact !!! Just my 2cents, I would check it out .

does salt have a shelf life? I have a box of IO sat that has been sittin' in my closet for probably 2 years. It's the 200 gal box (4 50 GAL BAGS) we got at Ebay I guess 2 years ago. I might mix up a few gallons and do some test to see what it comes out to be...

I didn't realize that Sean stocked those boxes on a regular basis, thanks Poolkeeper, I'll definetely remember that. The ONLY advantage to the buckets is the nice $5 bucket you get with it, I NEVER have enough!

The buckets are 160 g mix compared to 4-50g bag mix! Especially at $30 compared to $40 with 40g mix difference.

He may do the boxes too if we want he was just throwing this out and with the support that he gives us we can look at this.

I know, they are a GREAT deal, I got some at the meeting earlier this year! I was sort of under the impression that he only did that once a year, but if he stocks those regularly, I'll be making the long drive out there more often!

I've had good luck with Coralife... 150 gallons for $29.99 at PetSmart (on a price match). In fact, I need to go tonight (Thanks Scott and Sean! ). Its a bit more expensive than the IO at EBay (gallon per dollar calculations... I do the same thing comparing harddrives ;) ), but I like it (tested well in the Aquarium Water Testing paper) and it comes with a free t-shirt. :D

At least someone calculate like me...LOL. Read my message above...

:)

Well, on the downside, Petsmart is apparently not price matching "from other websites" any more. She told me they only pricematch to their own website... ??? I've never had a problem before getting a price match on that salt or anything else, so I'm thinking about calling corporate to see if there was a policy change or something.

Anyway... looks as though I will have to go to EBay and get a box of salt as I cannot wait until the swap... I need water pretty much now. :)

Brandon, count yourself lucky, I think we had this discussion about 9-10 months ago that they would pricematch for you, the only website that my local petsmart price matches is their own. Their own website is actually cheaper, in order to compete with the big online site, but at least they'd match it.

no one ever said if they knew if the salt had a shelf life or not. I have a 200 mix box that has never been opened. I think I bought it 2 years ago maybe? Whenever we had a meeting at Ebay and they did the salt order. I got 2 boxes and only used 1.

I think You have to be a member of MTRC to get the club price on IO at ebay. I would say the group order would be pretty much the same as AC price per gallon broken down and its a nice jesture for AC to offer to do this for the club because the order can get pretty big and take up lots of there floor space storing all the boxes/buckets till the swap not to mention the manpower to load/unload it all up to get it there!
I am just glad we have more than one great store that supports the club!!

I personally prefer the boxes with 50 gallon bags but I do 50 gallon a pop water changes so its just real easy to just have it premeasured for me but I see the added benifits of the bucket and the ability to close the lid to keep moisture out for those who use smaller amounts of salt than me :).
I will be in for a few buckets/boxes whichever way they order. I am down to my last box.

My last bucket of reef crystals, I had a problem keeping the bucket sealed tight. I ended up ruining the bucket because the salt got really hard.

My last box of IO, I opened one bag and started scoopin' out into zip lock bags, pre measured for 5 gal. and 10 gal mix. Works out great other than the fact it looks like I have a bunch of bags of cocaine

That's how I use to take salt to my brother. Wonder how that would have looked if I got pulled over by the cops.

Steve

I have trouble keeping my buckets sealed tight enouph to keep moisture out also. I had to baggy up all my mag-flake into 1 gallon portions in a small ziplock bag for the same reason. I lost almost half the bag from moisture getting in and hardening it up. I agree the baggies look kinda suspisiouse .
