Insurance Claim

Has any one ever had an insurance claim through Farmers Insurance. I had water damage, and they said they would NOT cover it. ANY ADVICE OR SUGGESTIONS.

Thanks!

Please excuse the responses of the forum echalant. I have a friend whose tank broke anh his insurance company covered him. You may want to talk to a rep from farmers ins and see what your policy covers.

It all depends on exactly what is in your contract. Ive got my house insurance through Travelers, and I specifically requested water damage coverage since Ive got 500+ gallons of water running around the house. I am covered whether the damage comes from a storm flood, or an exploding reef flood. Might want to talk with your agent about it.

I would go higher up the food chain on this one. Unless there is specific language stating that they don't cover water damage from an aquarium I would press the issue. Keep in mind, it is there job to NOT pay you. It is your job to prove you should get paid.

I had a fire claim with another insurance company. In my settlement they covered all my hard goods (including live rock) however they did not cover any live stock. Then after there total calculations they took off for depreciation and the total claim still exceeded my policy limits. In reality I got about 70% after depreciation.

Now from water damage. If you do not have a rider clause in your policy the limits are water damage caused by either pipe leakage behind a wall, or natural desaster such as flooding. The you must also make sure your not in what is listed as a flood plan because flood plane areas require special riders to cover flood damage.

Keep in mand that every state has there own insurance commission and rules. So what is or is not covered in one state might not apply to another state. In the case of a tank breakage causing a flood and damage I do not know of a state that would require this to be covered without a rider clause.

having worked in the insurance industry for a number of years here is my experience with farmers. If they can they will deny a claim. they did that once when i was hit by one of there clients they claimed it was a 50/50 accident. depending on your policy if it is a typical homeowners policy, meaning you own the home, it's not a rental or a condo. then you can claim water damage that is no different then if your toilet exploded, or your water pipe burst in the wall. they would repair the damaged furniture and whatever part of the house is damaged. however, the policy will not cover pets of any kind, so getting them to replace a tank that cracked would be tricky since to them it's where your pets live. I would call them back and resubmit the claim as just water damage. and when they finally get to how it happened you can let them know you have a tank that cracked but never try to recover any lost animals or maybe even hardwhere. the most important thing is to get your house repaired.

hope this helps.
