Intended fish purchase sticky closed

The thread mentioned was closed because while I had been answering it for the last five years, had to go into the hospital for some rather extensive surgery. At the moment I am on the site a bit as I am recovering energy and endurance and as time goes by will try to resurrect that thread or comment on comparable threads.

Get well soon Steve!!! I was wondering what happened. Your thread is so long now that most of the recent questions I've had were answered in there, I just had to find it. Looks like there are plenty of vets here to hold down the fort while you get better. Good to see you're still in the hobby. Take care.

One type of tang per tank period
Don't think you can throw in a school of yellow tangs in your 135g I'm assuming that's the tank you mean

Powder Browns are ich magnets qt that guy for 8weeks min

Some tv shows throw in tons of the same fish but then again they aren't hobbysts they're businessmen

I've had watchmans in with diamonds and clown gobies before with no issues

Depends on how heavily you are rock wise for the gobies

Since the sticky where we'd normally post "intended fish purchases" has been closed, I will start this new thread for some help on my possible fish purchases. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I have a small list going. I am not sold on any one type of fish nor quantity. If you could give me some feedback on these fish....like the good selection, bad selection, or the no way would i get that.

Also, could you give me some issues that I may run in to with the selected fish.

I have never had a saltwater tank and my tank is cycling as we speak. I'd like to get some fish now and place them in my QT. So when the DT is done cycling, the QT fish can move in.

I have a 135 gallon DT

Fish that have caught my eye:
Blue headed wrasse
Green coris wrasse
Red cord wrasse
Dartfish
Any Gobies that I should/shouldn't not get right now
Any Blennies I should/shouldn't get at the moment
Panda goby
Rainbow goby
Red fairy anthias

I would like to have soft corals and polyps at some point

That's my list for now......when I get more, I'll post them

Your fish list isn't far off from what mine is. I can start by suggesting that no matter what you decide to put into the tank make sure you take your time and start from least of aggression.

I have been adding fish in small groups and then giving enough time that my tank stays balanced, but not waiting so long that the fish want to kill the newcomers. I could just be lucky in that department thus far.

I started with the dartfish (scissor tail darts) and they have been real chill. They do jump, as do the wrasses, so a tight fitting lid is necessary.

I also tried the gobies but they got lost in my 210. I think they will get lost in yours as well. Some people say they stay in the front of their tank but mine did not. One even went down the drain and ended up in the sump. Couldn't catch him and he disappeared. If you had a smaller tank I would put them in there.

As others said, you need to be careful with the tangs to make sure that they don't kill each other. Pick one powder and either a purple or yellow. Powders are probably one of the fish that are more susceptible to ich, so prepare yourself.

All in all... A nice fish list. I will be adding a pair of clowns and a pair of Bangaii to mine. My goal is to have a mix of fish that stay around one area and then others that will swim all around the tank. Also some that hang at different levels of the tank and eat at different levels.

Good luck with your picks and remember to take your time!

Anthias are great they eat and do well one day then die the very next!

I had a school of lyretails 3 females and a male all of a sudden all 4 of them stopped eating and died about two days later I was so glad to see $100 go down the drain

Something must of been off, all mine have been liveing great for 4 years, all active and pigs. I feed 4-5 times a day though.

get well soon, steve! i'm thinking about a matted file fish and i need your opinion! LOL

Thanks! A matted file fish may or may not be coral safe. I have one in each tank that is but many find they enjoy tasting LPS. However, some eat aiptasia, some do not. A complete roll of the dice for both of these variables. They are, however, really "cute".

Don't do angels I have been lucky with a coral beauty in my lps softies tank but I wouldn't do it if you plan on keeping lps brains or clams

My anthias were also doing great then suddenly poof they died everything else was and is doing great just anthias maybe it's my tank and competition for food or something

Anthias to me are like Xenia some people can't grow Xenia while others can't get it to stop growing

Get well soon Steve!!! Your thread is so long now that most of the recent questions I've had were answered in there,

Indeed.. I read through a few dozen pages of that thread and got most of my answers on fish comparability that I was looking for.. Amazing how the same exact question was asked and answered sometimes as often as every 3rd or 4th post because people don't want to read the recent previous inputs.

Do you have a link to that thread? I would like to go back and read through it.
