Interceptor treatment and aefw?

I used new bottles of TMPCC. AEFW surely do come off. I think it just stuns them and unless they ALL fall off they revive once back in the tank. I did double strength doses for 15-20 min. One treatment going into the QT and one coming out. 8 days apart. One bottle each treatment since I used a tub to treat as many corals as possible in one dose. These then went into the frag tank. I only took frags from corals with no eggs and the frags did not have any bite damage. And they still got into the frag tank. I noticed them 2 months later. I had even done an additional TMPCC dip a month after going into the frag tank on the tri colors since they seem to be the fav food for the FW.

I should state the frag tank was newly set up, is completely isolated from the display and the only acros the tank ever saw were ones that went through the TMPCC and QT. No rock or equipment from the display went into the frag tank.

Then I tried Coral Revive. I saw full grown FW fall off in 30 sec. with almost no agitation. Just twisted the coral. They writhed around for ~ 2 min then they were still. I did try and move one to fresh water to see if it would revive but it disintegrated easily.

BTW I did see the AEFW 5 weeks after I treated the tank for RB. It was only because I noticed my Garf Bonsai looking mottled. It was up front and one I always looked at.

thanks for the reply philw. :)

So how long do you dip in coral revive and at what concentration?? have you slost any frags with it and do you see the typical slight color loss/browning ot with it as well on many corals??

I've been using standard dosage 15-20 min again. The first 2 bottles I had no issues with corals browning. I actually saw near immediate color improvement. Now with the third bottle I just received and used Sun it appears something was different. Stronger maybe. The bath water was milkier and the corals didn't respond nearly as well. I have some bleaching on my Elias Blue and I may lose my Candelight. I see polyps but it competely bleached. Several other corals really slimed up but are ok. I need to go back and see if they changed the dosage instructions. I just used what I had been. After 3 treatments now I see no more eggs and I've seen no new AEFW damage

Revive is a great product. I'm using it on all my new corals. Just do not overdose. Overdosing will bleach your corals:)

You dose 40ml/gal. I looked at my new bottle and it's the same dosage as the old ones. I do think this bottle was stronger from my corals reaction.

now does this coral revive work on red bugs also ???
It will knock a lot of them off, but interceptor is a beter way to go

Yep I was.

edit: Just to make one thing clear. I don't think anyone would do this but Revive is NOT an in-tank treatment. When I said the dosage is 40ml/G that was as a dip.

Looking more at my corals tonight the candlelight's polyps are out in full force and I can see a little color on the corrallites. So even though the newer bottle seems stronger the corals are recovering.

lol I know not to add it to the tank ;) To my question about it and RB's Is that when your dipping the the new corals for the AEFW does it also kill RB's ? Or do you have to dip it in interceptor also afterwards ?

I don't know about revive but most of the iodine based dips (is revive iodine based by the way?) just stun Red Bugs so they can be knocked off. A long dip in extra strength Interceptor kills red bugs reliably IME.

Revive is not iodine based. Says based on plant extracts. Also says not to use as a household cleaner. That's probably because it smells a bit like Pine Sol.

The revive sounds a lot like the stuff I have been using for 2-3 months. www.coralrx.com. The corals show no signs of stress after dosing. I have yet to find any AEFW's in my Dip bucket. I wish I knew someone that had AEFW's so I could really test this stuff out. I was wondering this long ago though if acro craps r the reason some sps do not get the aefw's when a tank becomes infested. Hence the interceptor dosage kills the acro crap and then the rest is history.

I am about to do an interceptor treatment, but this thread is really making me question the gameplan.

I don't think the RB infestation is that bad yet. Should I wait and see if it gets bad before I dose interceptor?

I didn't have a bad red bug problem either but the cure is so easy that I decided to do it. Shortly after the red bug treatments, I started to see tissue loss on a becker tort, did some dipping and found that I had flatworms.
I think that the interceptor is killing off something that keeps the flatworms in check, not necessarilly the red bugs, but some other small creature that is an aefw predator.

taking this back to attention.

Two years ago when my SPS tank was treated with Interceptor....(not being aware of AEFW) few months later i wonder why my sps arent happy until another reefer spotted it for me

It makes me think that Red bugs or pods bug the AEFW out or keep it in check so I did a search and found this post.

Very good idea it is very possible that interceptor is killing something that is normal in our tanks that keep AEFW at bay
