Than, you had to go and make me want a 5D II even more! I still have lenses to buy before I upgrade my back. What you say about its high ISO ability is awesome. Thanks for teasing, I mean, sharing. ;)

lol Just buy it! You wont regret it, I wish my budget was able to afford a 5D II...Meh D90 here I come!

\Canon has some great lenses and you can do awesome with them and Canon is better for action photography. Nikon is the king of lenses. They are by far the leader and viewed by most as making the best lenses.

Just one more observaition...why do you think Canon is the king of the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, the Olympics, ect? The main reason isn't the choice of cameras.

Back on track...

Get a Nikon or Canon. Better lens selection and generally cheaper than the 'other' manufacturers. Go to camera shop and try a couple of the cameras that fit in your budget. You may find that one feels better than the others. Comfort and ease of use are things to consider.

Back off track...

Canon may have the edge in 'action' zoom lenses, but not by much. Long primes, Nikon should get the nod. Macro is probably a dead heat. Flash system is all Nikon.

I'm not sure I would agree that Nikon has better long primes compared to Canon. Does Nikon have anything that compares to Canon's:
135mm f/2.0L
200mm f/2.0L IS
300mm f/4.0L IS
300mm f/2.8L IS
400mm f/2.8L IS
500mm f/4.0L IS
600mm f/4.0L IS

I'm really asking because I can't seem to find much about Nikon's long primes while I've heard Canon's are nothing short of amazing. I know for sure that the Canon primes in the 200-400 range kill every other lens in their lineup on benchmarks which is saying a lot given that the 35, 85, and 135 are considered fantastically good.

Yeah I give Nikon the upper hand in Flash...but the 580EXII does a good job of evening the playing field.

I would put every other category in Canon's court.
Don't forget the 800mm f/5.6 which is fantastically good. I've seen a few of those around. There there is the 1200mm f/5.6 but...you know...I'm not going to go there. Nikon has that 1200-1700mm f/5.6-8 in it's own right.

i am starting to become more and more interested in photography, first of all, i don't even have a camera, i want to get one that i can use to for awhile. what would you guys recommend? it has to be a DSLR

Need more specifics.... what is your budget? What type of photography are you most interested in?

Don't get too involved with the Canon vs. Nikon hoopla... they're just boxes that record light! You can't go wrong with either brand.

Have you ever looked at a photo and said... "Wow that is a gorgeous shot... it must be taken with a Canon" ? Of course not. Buy what you can afford and what you will actually ENJOY USING. That's all I can say.
