Interesting achilles tang eye coloration

Anyone seen an achilles come in with blue ringed eyes like this LiveAquaria DD picture?

I've owned only one achilles but I've seen a lot in stores and NEVER seen a blue ringed eye. Maybe a slight blue tint around but that blue on the picture really stands out.

It does look nice, really stands out....I would wager that DD has some pretty good lights for their pics...

No doubt. But even on DD, I've never seen an achilles I can recall having anything near that eye coloration.

It has blue around the anal and dorsal fins as well. Its on the very edges. It looks sweet! Too bad I am a newb and don't have a large enough tank for one :(

Maybe he hates the camera man that works for DD!!! lol I totally forgot that fish, tangs especially, change colors based on mood and dominance(in Tennenti tangs for sure, the darkest is usually the most dominant and the lightest is the lowest ranked one)...

The picture looks like a larger tang. If you go on DD now they have a 7" PBT and you can tell it is big just by looking at the picture!

This fish is definitely a juvenile. I think that fish on DD look way bigger in the picture than they actually are.

Also, the fish are always showing there scare colors, particularly tangs, on DD because they pull each fish out and put it into a "photo booth" take a pic and then put it back.

Isn't that an achilles' "mad" coloration?

Yes indeed! I saw that earlier and thought that they had really lucked out to capture a shot of him in "agro mode" as Andrew said (I call it that too, ha). They definitely look striking with the blue eyes even if it usually only lasts for a few moments, or as long as it takes for the other fish to get the heck out of their way. :D

Hmmm, I've owned an Achilles tang for over a year, got it around 3" straight from Hawaii and never saw anything near that deep blue eye coloration. For that matter, I've never seen any fish that changed eyeball color when in "a mood". I've had plenty that change skin shade and tones, but never eyeball changes.

Also, his fins arent flared and he just doesnt look like he is scared or aggressive, I've owned enough tangs to know that look ;)

Something seems odd to me about this fish. I've literally never seen that coloration and I've loved achilles tangs for a long time and seen tons of pictures plus owned the fish.

Recty, your powder blue doesn't change eye color? My powder blue's eyes can go from pure white to jet black depending on mood. Doesn't happen often, but it happens.

My powder brown doesn't change his eye color, but gets those vertical white bands when my hand is in the tank.

Nope, I've never noticed an eye color change anyway, maybe they do and I just never noticed it. I took a LOT of pictures of my achilles and never captured an intense blue ring around the eyes like that. To me it still looks like that is a special fish.

When my achilles gets mad he gets the blue eyes with white chin so maybe this happened as the picture was shot

That is sweet. I wish I had seen mine do that, just once at least. It's such a cool look and I owned one for over a year and never got to see it.
