at one of the French Polynesia islands they estimated clam populations as high as 88 million and as densely packed as 500 per square meter:eek1:

Holy crap, thats alot of clams, the pile just stretches off into the distance. Alot of dead ones too though.

yes they are all maximas. you should read the survey, its pretty crazy how they came up with the population #'s. they used satellite imagery from Landsat?(i think) and the international space station
