Interesting hitchhiker in my zoos

Sorry about the pic quality, it was an akward looking-down shot.

So I have this mussel living in one of my zoo colonies. It's been there for several months and as nifty as it is.... it kind of disrupts the view. Will the zoos eventually overgrow it and choke it out? Is it worth trying to move? or maybe just frag all the zoos off that rock?

What do you think? Its definately alive, I just can't decide how I feel about it being there. :lolspin:

Oh, cool. Guess I'll just leave him until he moves. How does that work anyway, they move really slowly? I know nothing about mussels. :hmm3:

I don't know how they move either, but they do. I noticed one on a new piece of liverock. Went back to look for it a couple of days later and it was gone. Didn't think much about it until it turned up in another spot a week later. I moved it where I wanted it and it moved back to the spot it picked.

Of course after this I spent hours watching it and other than opening and closing a little bit it hasn't moved an inch. I guess it knows where it wants to live better than I do.

Yea. They definitely know where they want to live. I worked around a couple of them and you can't get them to stay where you want them to.

Enjoy it. It mixes up the reef and it adds a different element to the tank.

a lot of the JP/HK/DW zoa's I receive come with mussels on the rocks and I simple detatch them & they now live in my system. Initially i thought they may be dead, but they move about and attach themselves to the side of the tank, skimmers, etc
