Internal worms?

I bought this annularis angel last weekend. Ate the first day, NLS pellets no problem. Day 2, stopped eating, and started pooping white stuff. Around day 3 I came home horrified to see literally a foot long string of white poop hanging from the fish. Since it isn't eating I started prazi and metronidazol in the water. I also started nitrofuracin green powder (all 3 from NFP) since I wasn't sure if his anus was swollen/infected in any way. Last night again, a foot long white stringy poop. I'm getting worried at the thought of what is actually inside this poor fish :( Otherwise, the fish looks good. Not skinny, normal breathing, clear eyes, no ich or anything like that.

Thoughts and recommendations?

Dang dude, I figured the prozi would have done the trick. My guess would be something internal went wrong when the worms got fried.

sorry for your loss. Just had the same thing happen to a gold flake angel. Im not sure if he had an internal parasite or dropsy. He was swollen like a balloon and scales were out like a pine cone. Thats the bad part of this hobby.....there are things we will never know the definitive answers to.

Well at least the LFS I bought her from has a 7 day guarantee, so I'm hauling the body and a water sample there today...

The LFS (Vets Pets) honored their guarantee. They've had one on hold for me for 3 weeks now. Just brought him home, and he's in QT now.

I can't help but think I am doing something wrong at this point. The fish lasted 4 days, then I came home to this. I just don't understand what is going on.... what is with the white stuff, again, coming out of it??

That is weird, I am assuming you had all ready begun the prazi treatment?

How old is the praziquantel, I don't know if there is a shelf life on that stuff or not?

I imagine both fish came from the same supplier, and likely the same collection site. I wonder if there is something going on with the suppliers holding tanks or possibly something going on at the collection site. I have never had a fish expel something like that before though, so i'm not a lot of help.

Sorry to see that Peter.

I have heard that this issue could be the result of cyanide, not sure though. Have observed it on copperband butterflies and emperors from the Phillippines in the past.

Probably fish from the same supplier/area as someone else said. If you try another from the same place I would get it in Metro asap and hold off on prazi unless you find it has flukes or something.

I've saved fish from the white stringy with metro and have lost them in prazi with the same symptoms although they usually look skinny and dehydrated before they die. Its stranger that they look otherwise good right up to death. never had it all come out like that either at the end.

What puzzles me is why are the internal parasites such a death sentence in the aquarium, but not on the reef. Makes you wonder if theres something they eat naturally that takes care of it.
