International Fish Supplier?

Well...our LFS stopped getting fish. They are focusing primarily on equipment, and aquarium setup.

Apparently, they used to get their fish from an international supplier located in Indonesia. I asked the LFS for the contact details of that supplier, but for some reason, he does not want to disclose that information.

Anyway...long story short...i would love it if someone can give me contact info for a supplier i can order from directly. I don't mind placing a large order, as all my friends/enthusiasts would chip in for their tanks as well. We want everything from fish, to corals, to invertebrates...

Any help would be widely appreciated..

Cheers

It isn't quite that easy. I'll admit, I know little to nothing about the intricacies of the wholesale/business side of the hobby, but I do know you don't just ring them up and put in an order (even a large order). :) Wholesalers/suppliers as a rule, do not do business with individuals. Its simply bad business practice, at minimum you need to be in the business first, and even then that is just the beginning of the requirements.

<strike>If your LFS has stopped carrying fish, go to ordering livestock online. There are dozens of quality online retailers (many RC sponsors).</strike>

Edit, scratch that. I didn't notice you weren't in the US until after I posted. :)

Thanks for the quick reply...

Unfortunately, i dont live in the states anymore. Honestly not too excited about ordering the fish directly either. Im sure a certain percentage of them arrive sick, weak, etc.

I dont wanna have to watch a bunch of them float upside down on me. But at this point, what choice do i have. The other LFS's here are awful. Some of them even use local sea water in their display tanks just to save a few bucks.

I wouldn't dare take a chance and contaminate my tank with any of their livestock..

most of the wholesalers(or transhippers) i know would require a 100 kilo min for shipping. your looking at 3-4 boxes and i cant see where you will fit it . the guys i knew that shipped out of indo always wanted a container.

I am a freight forwarder & Customs broker, you have no idea what you are getting into by wanting to order from the wholesaler.

You will need a bond in place for US Customs & a Fish & Wildlife permit, both must be renewed yearly & will cost you a boat load of $$. You will need to pay someone like me for a Customs & FWS clearance for every shipment, also not cheap. Airfreight for perishable cargo, can you say cha ching? 100 kg minimum for a wholesaler is nothing, most companies bring in over 500 kgs of freight or more. I think 100 kg would be a waste of their time quite honestly.

Your best option is to order online, even US wholesalers will not sell to you unless you have an existing business.

** Sorry, I didn't see that you weren't in the US. Check with your Beirut Customs office & they can tell you what you need to do to put everything in place. I don't see the benefits of this to be worth the money involved.

Is it possible to source your fish from Israel? Also I cant help but imagine that Red Sea fish might be easier to get for you there :)

You could ask Mrutzek if they ship there. Also Dejong might help you.
Don't know if a wholesaler would help you...
