I have a laptop infected and can't remove it. Hoping someone has d knowhow to help me out.
I've tried the typical things and no go .
Frags available thx

Have you tried running any spamware/malware removal program? If not, I recommend downloading and running spybot at www.safer-networking.org/. Also, make sure your antivirus is running up-to-date. PM me if you have any specific questions.

Good luck,
Carlos

Best thing to do in my opinion is not try and fix it, but save off your important data, and reinstall the operating system from scratch.....

Get a mac. Lol j/k. Have you tried turning off the auto save back up setting in windows and deleting the file? I'm driving now but I'll post more when I'm sitting in front of a computer.

I have Kaspersky Internet Security that has 1 license left on it if you need it, its all yours! works great for me. Dont even waste your time with AVG. I got a virus with it...UGH

Hi Manny,

That is one of the worst piece of **** infections to get right now.
I've had to clean several client's pc's lately of that.
It's much easier to clean from a regular pc harddrive because I can stick it in a standard external enclosure and not deal with the Windows roadblocks it throws up.

I've only cleaned one laptop from that software and it required dozens of reboots in safe mode to install and finally run a cleaner.
(You can try this yourself using Safe Mode and a free copy of Malware Bytes.)

If you want to drop the laptop off, I'll clean it for you but it might take a couple of days to completely clean. (We are swamped with new websites and I have 5 other priority jobs right now patching security holes in a shopping cart script for existing customers.)

No frags required, (I'm shutting down my tanks) but if you want to make my life easier stop at Bestbuy (or compusa/tiger direct, etc.) and pickup a 2.5" Hard Drive Enclosure so I can work on your HD as an external and I can plug into my pc so I don't have to deal with your laptop's Windows troubles.
You can find one like the Antec - MX-25 2.5" Hard Drive Enclosure at BestBuy for about $40.

I've got a USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE Hard Drive Adapter you can borrow - I just used it to move all my files of my old laptop.

Thx that is exactly where I am in terms of my try. I have the malaware bytes program downloaded to a usb but I can install it thus my big problem.

Anyways since I can get to install any real programs would it be out of the question to re-insyall the OS and wipe clean the hard drive?

There's really nothing important in that unit/ but it serves it purpose around the house.

Get a USB to IDE/SATA adaptor, remove drive from current PC. Install MalewareBytes on another PC (you can get it from Cnet.com) Connected USB to IDE/SATA adaptor and run a scan on that drive. I should find a few files and then delete them. Once that is done you will be able to put the drive back in the original PC and then installl software on it. Insall MalewareBytes on original PC and run a scan, again it will find more files clean them and your good to go.

Next step is harder stay away from sites like Inflatablesheep.com :-)

Andy I can but that virusscan aka malaware starts and not much can be done octet that since a prompt comes up and will not allow any other work.

run your PC through a high power magnetic field and start over! The people who write spyware/adware should be hauled out into the street and beaten. That stuff is a pain to get rid of sadly.

wait....wait....wait... you don't need to take the machine apart nothing like that ..............you can boot the machine up just fine............first thing you need to do is once you have the os loaded up by going to settings on the first screen under the gear (just ignore the goofy little scan that is going on) is check off allow computer to start up with out protection and say ok and allow, now I know its going to tell you that you should not do this bla bla bla when its started up and your into the os now you need to run a file called RKILL it stops the malware and then you need to run malwarebytes after it is been installed and only after you have installed it and allowed it to update, once updates are downloaded and installed run the program it will then find all the files and allow you to delete them

before restarting the machine go to start then run then type regedit.exe then go in to the registry make sure you do a search for is210 if it finds any files delete them you can also do a manual search in the hkey local machine under software and look for the file or under hkey curent and hkey user that you are logged in under if you need any help let me know I have removed it from a few machines at work it is actually very well thought out and you can actually admire the thought process it took from the creators if you can believe that lol

now on to all you out there that think just have a mac and you don't have to worry lol keep thinking that and tempting all the hackers to even notice you which most likely wont happen till you have more than 1 % of the home computer market lol and when a easy cheesy little virus like the shankar virus can reek havoc on a mac os wow your in trouble.... when sophisticated hackers start targeting your os with stuff like this very well thought out malware now thats going to be funny after all the bragging from the users
