"interracial" breeding clownfish??

Has anyone ever seen a Black Oscellaris and a regular Orange Oscellaris breed in capativity? I have a captive bred Black Female and a captive bred Orange Male that have mated up and been a pair for well over a year. I think they are mature enough now to breed since they did yesterday (I believe it was yesterday). I am no where near set up to raise the fry since I was obviously not expecting them to breed, but they have. About a golf sized portion of eggs in a fairly good flow area. They seem to be caring for the eggs nicely too.

Any thoughts on how the fry would look? Either Black or Orange or possibly a mix? I would imagine this has happened before, but just never read anything about it?

the black is just a strain of the occellaris breed, I imagine you would have some orange, some black, some a mix.. even no black as I think black would be a trait taht both parent would have to have. Just my hypothesis....

I have an orange female and a B&W male that lay eggs every two weeks. I have never tried to raise the fry so I'm not sure how they would look.

a mixture of all black and all orange...if you're hoping for an osc version of the perc onyx...not sure that that'll happen...but if it does...do post up some pics.

There's a a thread in here on this exact scenario, a b&w and an orange. With pics and all. The fry look a little like maroons.

How much do you suppose one mature clown would cost?

half of what a pure bred orange ocellaris would cost, mixing black and white and orange ocellaris just gets you a brown ocellaris

I think that I might be able to take a few off of your hands. Seriously. Just let me know (PM me) when they are old enough to be shipped and make it to it's destination alive. I will pay you for S/H. I think that they will look cool, or at least in my tank. :)

The colors wont mix when they breed.

This clown was labeled as black and regular ocellaris mix. Just more black around the reds I guess.

It looks like about 90% of the eggs hatched last night. Most of them had that silver shimmer to them before the lights went off. The pair laid their eggs on one of the base rocks of my display so it was not possible to remove it without dismantling the whole tank. I am going to try and slip a piece of tile in front of their space....have to see if that works. If they continue to breed then I will decide if I will be raising fry or not. My wife is not too keen on the idea of multiple small tanks and everything that goes along with raising fry. I may be able to convince her otherwise though if they continue to breed and on a removeable surface ;)

Well, they have gone and done it again. I have been busy and had forgot to move the tile I have in the tank over their breeding spot. Last night about 7:00 I noticed they were cleaning off their spot in a crazy like manner. Just constantly biting and the female was rubbing on the spot as if she was simulating depositing the eggs. I watched them for about 10 minutes and just assumed they would be doing it tomorrow. I was away from the tank for the next hour or so and then went back to check on them and they had completed their duty and had an even larger clutch of eggs this time. I have read that some people have their pair lay eggs every 10 days and I think these 2 are certainly on that schedule.

After this clutch hatches I am going to slip that tile in their place and see if they will use that instead of the base rock.

I was just aggravated I did not get to witness it since I was just watching them. At least now I can catch them the next time since I have an idea of their schedule ;)
