Looks like I found the right place. I am Drunes and I recently returned to the St Louis area I grew up here and after a 20 year detour in the Air Force.
My first Reef Tank I built while I was stationed in the UK it was a 75 gallon, there was nothing called reef ready at that time. (1982)
Australian coral sand was still available and the prefered filter method was undergravel. Mainly a fish only tank since corals were not typically available at the time for hobbist to keep with much success. Tank was up for about 7 years
After a lenghty tear down and rebuild at a frieds place in the UK I was reassigned to North Dakota. Much the same setup as I had in the UK.
From North Dakota I retired from the Air Force and went to Milwaukee in order to move a little further south and warmer weather. =D
Had several years without a tank before we moved from our apartment (no Aquariums allowd) to a new house.
Built in my first in wall and moved up to a 125 All Glass Reef Ready. Pictures of the build out in the gallery. Built in the wall with a 100 gallon sump/fuge the tank performed flawlessly and I moved to the world of MH lights and T5's. I also joined up with the Wisconson Reef Society (WRS) meet many great reefers.
Currently I decided to move companies and here I am back in St Louis both my wife and I are from the area so it was back to family.
We have started the project of building our basement out and of course one of the basements center features will be the Tank. I have started ordering upgrades to the new system from past experiances. I look forward to sharing with others our progress and hope to learn a few new tricks and tips as well as sharing what I have learned.
The new tank will be a 180 reef ready with overflows located at the 1/3 and 2/3 position of the tank.
2 100 gallons out tanks one sump the other for the fuge.
2 65 gallon enclosures one for RO / DI water the other salt mix tank for water changes.
AquaC 400 skimmer with a Mag 24
Current USA 72 inch Outer Orbit with T5s & 250W HQI Bulbs Main tank lighting
Tek lighting system x2 over the fuge the sump will be equipment only tank.
I have alot of other decisions to make however the tank in Wisconson had TBS rock and sand and I will be going with that again this time. Looking forward to comments and suggestions. I will post the progress with photos as it moves forward.
