Invisible Firefish

Heres the story. I purchased a firefish for my tank yesterday, wanted one for ages but held off due to wanting to stock more coral. Acclimatised it, did all the usual things, floated the bag, added tank water to the bag etc and then released it. I watched it for about an hour, it seemed a bit nervous but assumed this to be normal behavior although it didn't hide but swam right at the front of the tank.
I saw it enter the rockwork at about 8:00 and this is the last i've seen of it. It's over 24 hrs now and i'm puzzled. I pulled the tank out to see if I could see it hidden at the back of the tank. Nothing. I know they are renowned for jumping through the smallest of gaps so checked all around the tank. Still nothing. I've got a kitten and it's possible that if it jumped out, that the kitten could of eaten it but i'm not sure it would of, it probably would have knocked it about a bit then got bored but there's not a trace of it, and i've looked all around the house.
Anyone else had a firefish hide like this then reappear? Is it normal for them to go to ground when first introduced?

I've had a firefish for a year and a half and I routinely don't see him for upwards of a week at a time.

hah yeah, if you do a search everyone's firefish dissapears for the longest time. One day? Definately normal.

I lost my blackray goby for 2 weeks, came out one day, fat and plump. who knew ?

Same thing happened to me a few weaks ago, JennKerry so graciously helped me out, give him some time, they are timid by nature and need time to get established in their new surroundings, it also took a day for mine to come out but now he is out in front constantly

Still not appeared! Been two days and not a sighting. Oh well, I shall have to wait and see if it shows up. I knew they were a little timid but I didn't know they could disappear for days on end!

Wow, sounds like mine were opposite. My didn't even try to hide until the third day, and now they spend 90% of the time out in the open. Maybe my fish are stupid, lol. But I wouldn't worry, he is probably just hiding.

I'm with Blazer88. My Firefish is always out as long as the lights are on.

I would give the firefish some time. I don't think it is uncommon for them to just hide. Have you put any food in the tank since you placed the fish in?
