Inwall tank build with corals that "Sway"!

Great build, man!

You ability for aquascaping is just incredible, it will look awesome once your reef matures.

Now I got to make a comment about this picture...

You don't look like you were going to acid bath rocks you really look like a character from one of my favorite shows "Dexter Morgan", ready for the kill room...

LOL I need to get me some muriatic. I just don't know where they would sell it. any tips on where to look?

Lowes and Home Depot carry muratic acid, but I used high purity Hydrocloric Acid because of it's strength (you should be able to get it a pool supply). Muratic acid is basicaly used HCL and from what I've read can contain metals, so I just used the good stuff. :spin1:

Just be careful HCL is very unforgiving!:blown:

Very nice softy tank...seems to be a lost art given the craze for only hard corals the last 7 years or so...

I had a SPS tank for a while and liked, but I really enjoy having a softie tank and trying to bring back the lost art. :)

Thanks for the comments everyone!

That's an outstanding display, and proof that soft corals can be just as colorful and diverse as SPS.

I particularly like the pink and green "tree" corals at the top (Nephthea?) and the pulsing Sinularia. I just got an aquacultured frag of pink pulsing Sinularia (a friend who runs a coral farm is keeping it for me in order to grow it out and frag it). How fast has that species grown for you?

I've had it for about 5yrs and it grows at a steady pace. I've fragged it about 10 different times and each time it takes about a month to recover. At one point I thought it was dead and pulled it out of my old tank to throw it away, but as a final draw decided to just scub it with a toothbrush to remove the film to see what would happen. Well sure enough it came back that next week, so the point of the story is don't frag it to often.

I just read through this thread because I'm starting a new softie tank. All I can say is thanks for the inspiration. I started reefkeeping 5 years ago with the typical "beginner" corals like xenia and mushrooms, then progressed into LPS, and then SPS. Now I'm about to sell off all my SPS and go back to leathers, sinularia, and mushrooms/rics. I LOVE the movement in you tank and it just reinforced my desire to get that back. The worst part is I have to admit my wife was right when she told me not to pull the xenia out 3 years ago :). Great works on the colors too, that was the one part I thought I might miss but you've shown a tank can have color AND movement.

BTW, is the pulsing Sinularia a particular species or do all sinularia pulse like that? I've never had any but it looks super cool. My wife will flip when she sees it, I hope I can find some. It's like xenia but with more controllable growth.

love the tank I am doing a softi tank as well and came across this build can you give a coral list ? thanks it says you stay away from gsp shrooms etc.

Sorry for the lag in updates. I've gotten a new job and we had a baby not long ago, so life has been busy. I did make time to trim most of my corals way back last week for the local frag swap and the leathers are trying to recover. The tank is almost back to normal, but I'll try to get some new pics up by next week.

Thanks again for the nice comments!

I've had some request for the tank/wine room pics so I'm going to post a few more. I'm finally getting some wine stock in there! :p
