Iodine brings green slime?

may be coincidence but after I started dosing Iodine a green slime algae started to bloom on may sand bed. Any one here already have that kind of problem with Iodine?

I think iodine would cause brown algae ...If you are having issues with nutrien export/control to begin with then i guess it would be possable that the iodine is fueling the growth. Do you test for iodine ? Do you have pics of the slime ? It could be some sort of bacteria also..More info would be needed...Mabie others will have ideas

I'm also dosing for the last 2 months Prodibio (biodigest + bioptim), no reefbooster. But the green slime started exacly by the time Iodine was introduced. I also have some spots of brown slime over the sand.

NO3: 0
PO4: 0

My tank is 1 year old and this is the first time that I face some slime on it.

I quit with Iodine, let's see if green/brown slime will die.

quick question... Why brown algae and not green?

Nuisance algaes are opportunistic. If the balance in your tank gets a little off they are very quick to jump in. What is your iodine reading when you test?

Question.....Why are you dosing Iodine ?? Are you testing the Iodine levels befor you dose it ? or are you just dosing.

IMO, if your using a good salt Iodine isn't something that you really need to worry about.

Here is a good article on parameters from Randy Holmes Farley. He talks about not being concerned with dosing Iodine.

I'm dosing Iodine becouse I want to dose it. I didn't test it, just drop it. Like when you don't see things changing and you want to try something new. We know that a lot of aquarists use this product with good results, so I decied to try it too. Just like prodibio. Just trying to achieve better results with my SPS colors. But I think this produtc didn't work for me. Each tank is very singular.

Wow, Flipper is trying to help you out. He has a good point why put something in your tank that you don't even test for? I'm pretty sure he wasn't trying to belittle you by asking that question. You post something on a public forum be ready for comments, questions and opinions.

Iodine is too toxic to be used in this manner. You must test for anything you add and with iodine this is especially critical because the difference between a safe dose and a toxic dose is very small. As was said if you use a good salt you should not need to add it at all. If you think you need it buy the test kit first and if the test kit verifies your suspicions then add and test.

Not preaching to you because at the end of the day I really do not care, just trying to help.

Well, when you said, "just drop it" maybe you didn’t feel belittled but to me it seemed like you already had a pretty good idea of the problem but was trying to omit information to steer us in a new direction in hopes of coming to a different conclusion that would allow you to continue on this course of dosing iodine. When a legitimate question is being asked in order to get a better understanding of the situation, which in this case led to the underlying problem you can’t say, “just drop it” That’s the point I’m trying to get across. Ya know? Why even post the question then? That’s all…..
