Iodine+Strontium and Clams

Hi,

You all must have heard that Strontium and Iodice are not good for clams.

My friend bleached two new healthy corceas cause of high strontium and iodine levels in a reef, I could not figure out why his new croceas colors are fading slowly.

Now I stop using strontium and iodine besides the amount that is inside Two Little Fishies Sea Elements, my main concern is the other corals.

What are you guys doing?

Before for years I was keeping clams and corals and used strontium and iodine. (Knop full line).

There is a dilema, Clams are priority, but the corals needs iodine and strontium to be in top contidion.

Really? I never add any Iodine of Strongtium in my tank and everything do just fine, even my Xenia. My corals really grow fast as well as my clams and H. magnifica.

Supplemental additon of Stronitum and Iodine are not neccessary, unless you never do water changes. Contrary to popular belief and anecdotal (unsubstatiated) evidence, there is no proven scientific explanation for the requirement of these trace elements by corals. What supplements are you using then and which brand?

I don't add anything other than use my Ca reactor. I use crushed coral in my Ca reactor.
I do add Selco and children liquid vitamin to my homemade fish food.

I add Kent's kalkwasser to replace evaporate, and ESV B-Ionic to maintain Ca and Alk levels. This works well for smaller (<50gal) tanks. If I had a larger tank, like Minh's, I would probably invest in a Ca reactor. I also soak the fish food (mysis) in Selco before feeding. I add a capful of DTs phyto about 2-3 times a month.

What should the Iodine level be at for clams then? Should I have no traceable ammounts, or very low ammounts?

I don't think that it is very important, thus never check it, or add any.
