just a bleached rose?

I found a translucent pink bta in a lfs and cant decide if it is a rose or just a pink bta. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

My thought is, he was deprived of light like most and renamed like the (all white anemone) but then again they are called Quadricolor.

I will add that it just came in on a shipment this week. So the wholesaler did not classify it a rose, which I would think those guys would speak up.

From what i understand some suppliers got the idea to add dye to our animals and sell as say for example pink sun coral, or glass fish with the color injected.

Depending on how for down the pink goes, it probably would be considered a rose anemone when it colors back up.

If it is just the tips that are pink then it may just be a pink tipped green bta when it colors back up.

Thanks for the replies.....Its pink all the way down to the column (which is kind of purpleish). They had a couple that were pink in the ends but this one had an overall pink color. Hmmm I might go try and talk him out of it.

By the way phender how is that orange (flame ) rose you were posting about a while back? Man that is an awesome looking animal.

If the base and tehntacles are a firly uniform color that is a pretty good indication that it was dyed.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I have never seen a dyed BTA here in California. Sebaes yes, but not BTA's.

The orange bta is doing nicely, thanks for asking.

I have a Pink Bubble Tip! Been in my tank for six months and has remainded the same color. Here's a pic.

Phender can you post a pic of the orange one?

PRESTO2345, from what I can tell your RBTA is bleached too. In the first picture the oral disk seems to lack zooxanthellae algae. I use to have a RBTA just like that color but ever since I started feeding it more often it keeps getting darker.

Here is an old picture of it.

Yeah it's bleached. I don't really believe in pink bubble tips, there are just bleached roses. My first RBTA was a dark red/brown and it was under 150 W Mh with good feeding, but it still bleached and stayed so for about a year. I dunno why, but it was still healthy as could be, except for the zooxanthellae

That is pretty close to what I'm looking at. The shops light is not as good as it could be so the color is very faint.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

If the base and tentacles are a fairly uniform color that is a pretty good indication that it was dyed.

I don't want to hijack the thread. You can look in the first two pages of my gallery for pics.

55semireef It can't be bleached! This anemone is feed every other day and it's food is soaked in selcon one week and vita-chem the next week for the last six months. The pink has only gotten better and more viberant, and the shade is still a far cry from red.

I didn't believe the vendor either until they gave me a money back Guarantee.

Actaully it could very well be bleached. There is a difference between zooxanthellae algae and pigmentation. I see no brown coloration in your RBTA which is what color zooxanthellae is. All I see is a pink pigment. I have heard from others that some BTAs never do fully regain their zooxanthellae after they loose it. This could be the case with yours. In theory, since you feed it every other day with selcon, maybe your anemone doesn't need the zooxanthellae since it gets all its nutrition from its feedings. That is just a theory though. How long have you had that RBTA anyways?

Not to mention, if you have been feeding your RBTA that frequently for the past six months and it is still that size, that could be another possible indication that it is bleached. Yours doesn't look any bigger than 5 inches.

mrbncal, I hope this discussion is helping you. ;)
