Hi all...hope your week is going well. I found a tank for sale in my town that had a boa in it...then some fresh water fish. Does anyone know if it is truely safe to put fish in a tank that had a snake?

Thanks

I would guess it would be fine if it had the snake in it..
If this going to be a saltwater tank, is there anyway to ask the people you get it from if they ever treated the freshwater tank with any kind of copper medications.? copper is very bad for SW and will kill corals, and the meds get absorbed into the sealant on the inside of the tank and you can't get it out unless you reseal it. So i would definatly ask...find out the names of the meds used...If any...and do some research. If the tank was never treated with meds...my guess is its fine..
Just my opinion! HTH

A snake will output a lot of ammonia. Get some Amquel and wash it down with it, then clean it out with white vinegar or muratic acid, and you should be ok.

Great point

I never gave a thought to the copper that a lot of people use in freshwater tanks...GREAT POINT! Thanks so much for the input, thats why I ask...you guys think of everything.

Have a great day!

I believe it breaks down ammonia. Available from pet stores. If the snake hasn't been in it for awhile, I wouldn't worry too much about ammonia. Just give the tank a good rinse with the white vinegar followed by freshwater.
