Is anybody interested in a beach dive this Saturday morning?

Speckled Grouper

Sticks Suck!
We are planning to go out from Datura Ave (just south of Commercial Blvd) in Lauderdale by the Sea this coming Saturday morning.

This is supposed to be one of the best beach dives in the area.

8.00 - 8.30 am

Anybody interested in joining us?

Can't go, gotta take my dog to the vet. But that is a great area, lots of overhangs and caves. I've seen a school of snook there, just hanging out in one area - kind of a sandy grotto surrounded by rocks. Came back a few times, they were still there.

Make sure you tow a flag, there are lots of crazy boaters like me out there. :fish2: :fish1: :fish2:

i wish i knew how to "dive" but that is my favorite place to snorkel i just never have anyone to go out with

I would love to go but I don't know how to dive or have the equipment. I am going to pick up a dive book and teach myself in my pool. Sounds like alot of fun.

Post up some pictures so we can all see what we are missing. :D

It's kinda like your job, Matt. Except you're in the tank.

sounds fun...my dad, my uncle and I are starting to dive and would be interested except we'll all be out of town this weekend. If anything like this happens later down the road I'd be interested and am sure I could twist they're arms and get them to come with!

this would be a bad idea. no i don't teach diving, but you really should go and spend the 175 dollars and take the class if you want to learn how to dive. It's a dangerous enough sport if you are taught how to do it correctly.

I do not recommend it, I believe the diving related death toll is up to 16 in Florida this year. It is a beautiful and safe sport if you are properly trained and put the effort to keep up to par after, for those certified but inactive for a long time take a refresher class.

I agree. I did the weekend coarse (2 days) if a bunch of you want to do it get a teacher to charge a group rate it comes out to like $100 per person then.

i would even go as far as to suggest taking the 4 week course of you are going to do any serious diving in challenging conditions. If you are just going to dive here off of South Fla and off dive boats then the weekend course is ok. But if you are going to do any venturing off by yourself diving, you really should take a more indepth class. We have found alot of beginner divers that have taken short classes unable to cope with fast changing conditions or challenges that can prove to be fatal is certain mistakes are made.

Do not get me wrong diving is one of the most rewarding of all the hobbies that I have. But it is very easy to do serious damage to yourself or others.

I just did this beach dive about two weeks ago. Pretty nice, several pairs of large angels and a sea turtle, which was an unexpected pleasure (people tell me they're all over the place up there, but I've never seen one). Oh, and a very large tarpon which at first blink I thought was a shark :D I got a bit too close to the pier though, I thought I was going to get hooked.

Matthew, I gotta concur with all the other opinions expressed...scuba is not a good activity for teaching yourself. Its not even a good activity for going by yourself in most cases. Even having been originally certified with the longer PADI course about ten years ago (actually more I think....eek) I took a refresher earlier this year. I was suprised by how much stuff I had forgotten about. Its generally a safe hobby but it can get very dangerous in a hurry if you don't have some basic concepts drilled into you, and they're not necessarily something you would think about on your own.

ill go snorklin over there on a sat or sun morning if any one interested
as for diving TAKE THE CLASS its cheap and very in formitive
i cant beleive u said that matt??

It was very nice. It's not the Keys, but heck, 30 minutes from home and almost free (except a gazillion of quarters for the parking meter), I had a great time.

How was the fishing trip? What did you guys catch?
