Is anybody use automatic mechanical filter for big reef aquarium (1000g)?!

Although I do not know about that filter at all, I know in very large tanks such as public aquariums, it is not uncommon for them to use mechanical sand filtration that are also used in pools.

tks - I know, but silicate sand isnt good for Reef Tank (only for fish tank)....

Mm, not so sure this is correct. Silicates can lead to diatoms, but otherwise, what are you objections?

A koi filter would be very effective. Also matala mat can be used inside the filter to trap dirt.

Wouldn't you have to worry about actual salt lost from the backwashes? If you backwash every week or so your going to lose that water but the salt with it, which I guess you could replace easily if you have a RODI system.

interesting efficiency...
May be in Reef tank not necessary to use mechanical filter because coral is good filter!!
