Is Finnex false advertising

I purchased two Finnex 500w titanium heaters and have them connected to my Ranco controller.

When checking wattage draw, one reaches 450w and the other is 430w. Is this within spec or are these heaters just not reaching the proper temperature ?

My 200w Ehiem Jager is reading dead on.

I'm measuring with a Kill-a-Watt. If I was off by 25-30 watts each heater, I would be concerned, but 120w total is alarming

As long as they keep the temps stable and dont fail I would not worry too much about it. Finnex is low quality.

What would you recommend over them.... I'd rather stay no thermostat, but will go with something better if necessary. Preferably higher wattage.

Thing is, I might be pushing my heaters.. . I need to maintain 85 F on 200 gallons. I should be fine, but my house can get cold in the winter with inside temps around 65....

I like my Finnex heaters that come in the orange box, not low quality. But yeah all heaters are poor quality, so pick your poison.

Just two heaters, but the my finnex performs poorly compared to my ehiem for heating watt/watt, as observed in a cold garage heating mixes. I like the display... but IDK. Ehiems fail too...

85 degree for a discus tank sounds about right. i personally use eheim. as long as it keeps the temp, wouldnt worry about wattage too much.

He said he had a reef tank and a discus tank. I assumed he was keeping them both the same temp.

Yes.. it seemed like he was..
A discus tank should be kept around that temp..
That is not needed at all for a reef tank though..

You put a blanket statement..
I clarified..

Yes, I run 78 in my reef and 85 in the Discus tank, should have clarified.

I received a response from Finnex and I don't really find it acceptable since we are not getting what we pay for. Even though they may keep my tank at the right temperature, I'm still not OK with it.

Hi Tim,

Thank you for contacting us with your concern. The TH-500s will be running at ±10%. If you are running 2X TH-500S heaters on a power strip, your Kill-A-Watt should read ±900W.

Regards,
Howard
