Is he gaping?

I've heard the derasa's will appear to be gaping when they are fine? Is this little guy okay, or should I be alarmed?

Does it close when you suddenly block the light?

No problem there. Responds very quickly to light change.

I did remove a foxface I caught nipping at his mantle. The foxface was banished to the sump...

looks a bit stressed, but nothing too bad. this is similar to how mine looked when i moved tanks. his intake siphon gaped wider than normal for a few days, then went back to normal.

The intake syphen is still gaping a bit during the day, but very large at night. He's been putting his mantle out all day, but is slower to respond to stimulus. The water quality in my tank is good. I have a new 1.5" t-max that I have at mid tank. The t-max hasn't attached yet, but is looking just fine. The derasa is on the bottom (30" tall tank). Again, am I worrying too much here, or should I try to make a move now? I could put him on a clam disc and move him to mid tank for more light exposure.... getting concerned for the lack of improvement.

Unfortunately it is terribly difficult to give good specific advice without knowing the individual and tank well. Clams can be tough to diagnose when they're not happy.

Sometimes when they settle in they respond less violently to shading, sometimes that's a bad sign. Does his color/hue look good? Still have a good growth edge?

It looks bright on the bottom of your tank. What kind of lights are you running?

Two 32" Reefbreeders LEDs. They're 300W each fixture at max light. I've got them turned down to 70% at full daylight... lights are 6" off the water and the tank is 30" deep.

Dang... I think I'm just paranoid. He looks fine during the day but gapes like crazy at night.

I'll see how this goes for a while. I keep messing with this clam Im gunna kill it.

Oh if it is just at night I wouldn't be too concerned. They look weird at night.
