Is it dead or a molt

Hi everyone

I posted a thread about a month ago asking for ID on a few critters.
One of them was a little red crab that was hiding in a hole in one of the rocks.
Well tonight, when I went and had a look in the tank I found this.
He was upsidedown near to the rock where he hides.

What I need to know is this 'is he dead or just a molt'
I can't see any cracks where the crab could have come out if it is a molt.
Could anyone explain to me how crabs do molt.

Oh forgot to tell you that he is just under 1mm wide.
And I'm still unsure what he is.
