I think one forum would be nice. Instead of labeling it as SEASL or SLASH forum, make it St. Louis Area Clubs. Then descript it something like "a place for various St. Louis area clubs to chat etc." In the little area where links are on the description have both club links.

I think that too would make certain issues moot regarding rules of the forum and various club rules and/or legal concerns. I think that was a question/concern of the SEASL board. I remember a club in California back a bit that was under the gun for sales/trades/group buys and somehow the IRS or someone was causing them concern and hassle. But without a single direct club sponsorship(or whatever it's called) that would water down any potential problems.

I like 2 clubs as well and I hope that there remains to be the human resources available to continue them both as it makes more opportunities to be with friends. Joint ventures could be a very positive outcome posibility. IMAC?

What matters is what the members want. If the members want one club, then we should get together with each other and make it happen for them, or they can do it for us:) If the members still want two clubs, then we can strive to become clubs in friendship and not competitor's.

From the posts above it does seem that We "the members" (of both Parties), all agree on one thing.. And that is that we ALL Want two Clubs!!

Should we ask the BNARC, SEAS, and CIMA clubs to join the forum as well. They are in the area and I like to catch up on their events. I joined CIMA's lists and look forward to meeting the BNARC board very soon.

SLASH is a Club. Which if you look up at the top falls under Reef Club Forums. As capo stated while I was typing this up.

How anyone can interpret Becky's post as taunting is beyond me. (There it is, a bicker...)

I belong to both clubs. Most of the St. Louis Saltwater community belongs to both clubs.

Uncle! You guys figure it out.

I'm gonna go look at my fish until I feel better...

I have tried to be impartial on this even though I suppose I was one person responsible for some of it. While I would love for there to be one club I too don't see that happening. I just spent two hours going through all of the old posts that brought about this change. Honestly I don't think it would ever work because the two clubs focus on different things. There are some attitudes in this and some make no sense. McBeck I give you credit for at least trying to head in the right direction but your motives are suspect to me. Nothing personal but your goading of Greg only proves it. Seasl has done everything you said you had no interest in doing SINCE Slash came about. You have copied the moves of this club because you saw it working and to make it worse all of it was in your hands a year ago, all of the ideas that you are now copying were given to you and you and the rest of the board declined them.

Tom...I have the utmost respect for you, and I know where your intentions are and they are honorable. Thank You for that.

Hobbes...I want to take you back to a post you made on Feb. 6th which only confuses your position on the whole matter.
"OK, from a new person's perspective....

and my name is John Henrion..... Guess we need to identify ourselves to make sure we are taken serious.

I think RamTheory had some great ideas to get more participation and fun into the group. Maybe his "opinions" are alittle strong in a negative way, but they are his opinions..... You can not discount his ideas as great ways to get more participation. I for one do vote for Kathy as the Breeder of the Year! King Arthur and Guinever are eating out of my hands already and growing like weeds.

Now, Jim Craig was correct in that SEASL does some nice things. The Inland trip, frag swaps, speakers, etc. But he made a statement that I cant let go that shows part of the problem I see being brand new to this group.

Jim stated: " Look at all the frag swaps SEASL organized as well as the swaps they encourage at every meeting."

Sorry, but you are incorrect and I was standing right next to Brad Witt on Saturday when he got upset that the one Reefer brought frags to the meeting Saturday. The only reason Brad did not make a bigger issue was that they were left outside the main room and the deals were done BEFORE Saturday. Brad's words as I was standing 2 feet from him "This is for DRY GOODS only, not a frag swap". Being new, I was surprised by his response. I went and asked a few people about it and was told..... SEASL is just like that. So, you tell me, as a new person... What am I too think?"

This was typical of Seasl meetings...it wasn't in Roberts Rules of Order and wasn't a Board sanctioned swap so it was wrong and a member was made to feel poorly because of it.

Slash isn't like that, it is informal because we are all friends and treat each other like friends. There is no way the two functioning boards could come together as one. I am sorry to say it is so, but it is so. That pains me because this line could have been avoided. Fortunately the membership is the same for the most part, and those that don't see the benefit of each club are the ones who miss out.

I think the majority of people who belong to both clubs belong to both clubs because they each offer something different compared to the other. If they were both the same you would not have so many people belonging to both. I does not neccessarily mean one club is better than the other, thats a matter of personal opinion. The clubs are just different approaches to enjoying, improving, and expanding a common interest.

A few combined St. Louis area club get togethers would actually be good- especially for large events if we want clubs from other states to come. However, i feel it be best if we just enjoy the benefits of having two different clubs to participate in. After all, it means there are twice as many chances in a year to do something saltwater club related.

Hmmm, I will say that I am a bit befuddled on the statement made earlier that there are no ill feelings by SLASH board and members towards SEASL. It seems there is a still a bit of angst in the tone of some of the ideas expressed here.

For what it's worth, my sole intent here was to try to create a feeling of good will between the two clubs. I would like to see us all act like adults instead of teenagers.

As a part of the SLASH movement, I always felt a bit on the "outside" because I didn't share the same angst towards SEASL and I thought it counter-productive to think that way. I had my reasons for not joining SEASL the last few years and when the time came to create something new I wanted to be a part of it. I hoped we would outgrow our "competitive" nature and the thought that we run this like a business and stomp out the other club.

This is the reason I started this conversation rolling when latazyo asked who surfed both forums....to prove a point. We all, well at least 93.3% of us, admit to surfing both forums and I know from looking at the forums that it is 100% dang near that surf both forums. We are mostly all members of both clubs, if the members want two clubs, so be it. My only caveat would be that we try to work together a bit in scheduling events and optimize things for both clubs.

It is clear that I am not going to change the mind of our board, they have come together here tonight in force to say their peace and that is fine. I think it was a mistake not to embrace a positive change, but that is that.

Actually Dave I think one very good thing came from this...we all want and accept joint ventures. One club we will not be but one group we can and will be. Bring on the BBQ!!!

Anything positive we can take from this last year would be great!!
