Is it okay that I'm unhappy with all of my fish?

Hello,

1yr into this and I feel like sometimes I hate all my fish. The problem is that I dont have enough hard goods to support live goods. I haven't bought a fish in 6 months and haven't lost anything in 8 months. I just have a FOWLR setup because of the fish I picked, and I need to invest better in to an RO system, better lighting and someway to control the microbubbles!!! I have to say I am lucky that I haven't lost any fish in awhile.

I'm using this more to vent frustration out than anything and with my luck I'll get 100 views and no responses. Is this normal frustration?

Does anyone want to come over and teach me like a child how to fix my mess??

:sad1:

Well, the best I can do is share some of my frustrations over 35 years of keeping saltwater fish. I had my first saltwater tank in the early '70s before anyone really thought about corals. I loved having the fish because I liked "the fish". I got caught up in all the coral hoopla and now have a mixed reef tank and can't keep any of the fish I really want. Everytime I see a fish I like I want to kick myself for having a reef instead of FOWLR.

Stick with it, enjoy the fish, get some low light corals, gorgs, sponges if you really want to color up the tank.

Best wishes,
Dave

so, are you looking to set up a reef system? What kind of fish do you have? how big is your system?
btw, hate is such a strong word :)

Paul... I'm jealous honestly. I wish I had room for a FOWLR tank and agree 110% with Dave. I saw a Queen Angel at one of the LFS today that captured my heart and love the Majestic and Regal angels as well. Someday...

Waffleman,

my tank is a 65RR megaflow. I need to get that 36" novaextreme 4 bulb t5 light that $300. If your on this as much as I am, maybe you know i just bought a 150 that I will use for FOWLR. The 65 I want to be a nice reef system, but I'm far away from setting up the 150 to out my sailfin and foxface in.

you know all the years ive been reefing i have always said that the next time i up grade im going to keep my old tank just for those fish that dont enjoy corals or tankmates the same way i do but i have never been able to accomplish this. I recently rebounded from a slump in my hobby intrests and its great to have the itch back. Point is its common to have the up and down periods, as long as the tank is still running your not lost just on hiatus and thats ok IMO..

Sure, no problem here.

if your unhappy with all your fish there must be a reason . first you have to get a list or at least know what you want to inhabit your tank before you start purchasing .never go to a lfs and just buy something just because you have some bucks in your pocket and want a fish . stick to your game plan as i have always said that a fish tank should have a three year plan which means that you plan to take three years to somewhat fill you tank with corals and fish . during this time you can vary your direction if your interest goes in a different direction . and when you actually see that must have fish there is room left because you didn't just buy anything just to buy it .
