Is it possible to have a sump setup without having a tank drilled?

When I bought my 10g as a quarantine tank, it was an Aquaculture brand and on the sticker, it said not to have the tank drilled.

I wonder if I can have a sumped setup in my 29 gallon without having it drilled.

I would HATE to see my sump in waste.

BTW, My sump is in the shed.

I have a hang on back overflow on my 30 gallon tank and it works really quite well but it's really important to have enough flow and make absolutely sure that it wont cut out and overflow. I have a pump shutoff float switch in the top tank so that if my overflow box ever cuts out, my pump will shut off till the water level drops again. It's a worthy investment but you should be okay.

Yeah like the others have said, a hang on back overflow like an Eshopps type work really well. Just make sure you research it before you dive in and make sure you have the right size for your tank. A lot of people run hang on back overflows and they work really well if done right!

A hob downflow is certainly ok for a small tank. The reason for not drilling is the use of tempered glass in the tanks: tempered glass will burst apart into a thousand small pieces if you try to drill it. Next tank, going larger, I'd definitely save pennies and spring for a predrilled or at least drillable tank.

Or potentially water all over the floor if done "wrong"..

Personally I would never have a HOB overflow on any tank.. I just wouldn't sleep at night worrying about it.. I had one on my first tank and just wouldn't do that again..

Of course I probably wouldn't go through the trouble of a sump on a small tank anyways..

Yeah, I worry enough with my Reef Synergy External Overflow, can't imagine having one that could be knocked off.

OP, I personally do not think a sump is worth it on a tank as small as a 29 gallon. If I were you, I would go all HOB equipment, as it's simply less of a headache.
