I know most people use the macro lens to shoot corals for the detailed pics it takes ..but does anyone use anything other than the macro ? If so what other lens do you use to shoot your tanks?
I like using a long telephoto to shoot FTS - it compresses the scene and the tank looks more "packed" than it really is. btw, my 70-200 is not a macro lens.
xtm is correct. Macro is for close up shots (or you can use it pulled back too for the 100mm perspective - assuming 100mm macro lens). Someone did a real nice write up on reef photography in the forum a few weeks ago. Might want to scroll a few pages back and look for it. It was quite well written with good information.
You can also get away with tubes and a regular lens, but lighting can be more trouble since you loose quite a bit with the tubes on. Using a flash can help also.
Roger, I don't know where you are trying to go with this. The big reason macros are used is to get good, up close, 1 to 1 magnification pics of corals or fish. You can take a picture of your tank with any lens you want and get good pics. Taking pics up close and personal though, that's what a macro is for.
