Is my anemone dying and what kind is it?

It doesn't stick to rocks or anything so its always flying around the tank.
the LFS had it labled as a condy for 9the bucks so I got it knowing it wasn't.
It came as is, and my water is fine. It ate a whole shrimp that a mashed and eats the fish food that makes it to it. I learned pretty quick that it will puke whole shrimps

Was pure white when I got it...sometimes it is shrivled like a raisin and now 5 days later its starting to gain a peach color towards the tips. I have it quarantined untili know what's up. I dose Iodine accordingly once a week and skim for 5 hrs after I feed. Good skimate too. Stinky.

Also its mouth is about 1/8th of an inch...not quite gaping.

I did some research but it wasn't too helpful. I can give any info you need and more pics of its moods.

From my phone here it looks like a very bleached rbta. If it has gained color that's a good sign, but a bad sign it won't put its foot down. Try to help it by putting its foot in a hole or cave. Redirect flow to be very light over it so the current doesn't blow it out of the cave. Feed it, but very small foods, like Raw chopped up meaty foods suh as squid, krill, shrimp, scallops, clams..... Stay away from silversides or anything you wouldn't consider eating. Good luck.

Bues id sounds closer to what I came up with. I worked @ a petstore and the condys were more pointy.

How often should I feed it? Its about half a baseball in size.

It looks like a Condylactis passiflora. Known to be hardy and also to move around frequently. I'd suggest you cover powerhead intakes.

Yeah, I have the intake covered with a filter sock I rinse in tapwater daily.

How much did it cost? If it was under 10-15 dollars then it's likely a Condy. I was going to suggest a sebae.

Definitely a condylactis. If it is getting some color then you are headed in the right direction. Good luck with it.

I called the pet store, because they sold me a butterflyfish that died for no apparent reason. I asked about the nem, which I paid 9for bucks for...they said they were bubble tips that came in as the condy order

Anywho....

I fed it some thawed squid...didn't stick to it. Fed it mysis, and it puked. Squished a cocktail shrimp with my fingers and it ate it with no problem.

Will it ever regain its foot stickiness?

Sorry for the late response, my space bar was not functioning on my phone, but I fixed it.

Update on the anemone: it has now regained his stickiness and has attached to the plexiglass divider in his little healing room. Its regaining its color very slowly, its only been about a week since I got him bleached and loose. Pretty good for my first anemone.

Here's all I did.


Where the water drains in my sump I have a baffle. Inside the area the water is split: half to sump and the rest to protein skimmer.

The anemone is in a baffled area that is about a quarter gallon cube where fresh dt water is mixed with water from the skimmer. Here I can observe him, he gets all the nutrients of the tank, and feeding is easy. He also has his own light.

Anyway. I feed him shrimp every other day. I also put a few drops of iodine on days I don't feed him.
now, since he has stuck himself to the glass baffle, im going to try to lure him onto a piece of rock rubble and place him in the DT when his color has come back all the way.

If it doesn't look different after a couple more weeks than its craigslist for condyleeza

Nems take quite some time to color back up. It does look like a condy. Is the foot red? or some color other than the rest of the nem? If so it's most likely a condy

Only use Iodine if you are testing the levels. Regular water changes will supply your anemone with sufficient Iodine.

Yes, the foot is like peach color and the tips are now the same color about 1/4 way down its tentacles.

Today I went and looked at some healthy condys to compare. I alsoe saw a sebae that was the size of my thigh. Almost bought it but I didn't want to get eaten by it myself.
I did however pick up 2 critters I will never see. Horse shoe crab and a flounder. When they get larger my 2000 gallon basement build will be done and I will still never see them. Still cool to show the parents when they visit.

Some of my favorite critters are the cheapest ones
