I don't think it's too unusual for a Candy Cane to look like this in daylight with the tank lights on. Some of the heads look a little pinched. I had one that looked like this and I started target feeding it after lights out and it rounded out very nicely.

It make take some more time to open, but I agree, it looks fine.
Give it a few more days, I bet it will open!

give it to me, those green center candycane look great under halides and arent always that available like the blue centered or common single colored trumpets.

a different Kelvin rating on the bulb 14K/20K or maybe some actinics would help in showing more of the irredescent colors of both the brain and candy.
but, i do agree it looks healthy and probably has shiped-shock and it will be OK.
besides, the brain would be in the same shape if there was something wrong with the tank parameters.

FWIW, everything ive bought from www.liveaquaria.com has always done great.

thanks guys.

oh and stanlalee - it's under a 10k 2x150 mh and 4x39w actinics... i think they'll look just fine :-p

My Cany Cane does well in low light. When I put it directly under the light (even on the sand bed) it closes up like yours. When I move it off to the side, the heads open up very big and healthy looking. The color is better, too.

After acclimation caulastrea like bright indirect light. They can be sensitive to direct (under the bulb) metal halide, but otherwise do like it bright.

i completely disagree. This is a very stressed candy cane. If yours looks like this on a regular basis, you need to figure out what's wrong with your tank before it dies. Its friggin skeleton is showing! How would you like your skin to be so tight that your bones poke out?

I believe in this case, it is just stressed out from shipping, and given your tank params, it will heal up in no time, but by no means is this an acceptable level of health for more than a week or two.
