Is sand a good bed for a squamosa?

Hi,

I have an 8" sqamosa that is just refusing to sit on top of rock. He's too big too glue. I've tried surrounding with large rocks but the clam just starts flapping until he knocks everything out of his way and he is back in sand. It is pretty impressive. I would be happy leaving him in the sand except for one thing - bristle worms. I heard these like to crawl up through the underside of clams. Should I be concerned about this? There are a few large bristle worms that regularly work my sand bed.

It shouldn't be a problem on the sand. It's preferable, actually. The bristleworms might tickle the byssal area a bit, but they won't cause a problem unless the clam is already ill and dying.

Where does an 8" squamosa sleep? Apparently, anywhere it wants to

When I had my squammy, it prefered the sandbed. Just let it stay there and it will be happy.

Don't worry about the bristles, they will pretty much leave it alone.

usually when people say their clam was attacked by bristleworms the truth is the clam was already dead or dying. they are attracted by the smell of dying flesh.

as your already starting to find out he's gonna go where he wants, no matter how many time you move him. so unless he looks stressed or bothered let him.

oh yeah, don't use glue to hold your clam.

i have a 10 in that has been in the corner on sand for 4 months, he has been happier since the engineer goby's moved out from under him and to some rocks.
