Looking to see if anyone is willing to give me some extra Grape Caulerpa from their tank?

If money is an issue, I'll give you a few dollars. Just don't want to buy on-line (ebay) and deal with shipping, heat packs, etc, etc.

U of A area.

I believe I have some grape caulerpa that I have an abundance of. Green and red. As long as Im thinking of the right stuff.

I too have free chaeto and feather caulerpa.

Thank you. I appreciate it. They are great.

The grape variety is very cool and also quite difficult to find. Did you manage to get any of it?

Donvuitton, can you post a picture of your varities? I would like to see if they are grape caulerpa.
Cheers

Grape caulerpa is the devil! Not too much eats it from my experience and it can spread quickly.

As of yesterday, SWSW had an algae that appeared to be grape--or something like it, I hesitate to say for certain in light of Scott's post above--in their cuc tanks.

Char, That variety of grape caulerpa in the link is fairly popular, but still hard to come by. There is another one I was referring too. I'll see if I can find a picture.

Ok, I found some photos.

First off, I wanted to comment about the feather caulerpa. One variety of it is actually banned from introduction in California waters. I think it is called Caulerpa taxifora, or Caulerpa prolifera. It has a feather blade. You will see signs along the beach and posted at many of the aquariums, warning people about the invasion of this caulerpa in the ocean. It has been introduced accidentally and has caused dameage to the ecosystem in that region because if its rapid growth.

Of course it is fine in the aquarium, but it is a rapid grower and and be kept to the refugium and not placed in the main display with LR and corals.

In my experience, the cheato, prolifera, and mexiacana varieties are rapid growers. The others grow slower and are more beautiful.

Here are a few varietes I collected in the past.

Razor Caulerpa serrulata
This is a slow growing, very cool looking caulerpa

Caulerpa mexicana

And then comes my absolute favorite, the grape Caulerpa racemosa. This one grows in a true grape cluster off the rhizoid (stalk). The other variety of grape caulerpa only produces semi-flat grapes that look more like a gecko foot than grapes, to me.

This last variety is of unknown species. I always called it a teacup caulerpa. It is very cool to look at and I consider it a medium grower. It was the only caulerpa that my fish would munch on, because it was softer and more delicate.

I have the type that looks like a gecko toe. Just appeared after a year, no idea were it came from. Some got pumped into the main tank attached to a rock. In 2 weeks it covered the rock so bad I had to remove it, scrub it and run it under hot water to clean it. So if you have a way to isolate it from the rest of the tank, it rocks. If it gets in the main tank and goes un-noticed for a few weeks, it can be a mess.
