Hi guys, Im hoping you might be able to help me with this problem...
One of my true percs has an area of ashen skin. It almost looks like dry skin. I've had him and his companion in the tank for a little over 2 weeks and this is a new development. He was acting normal and eating well (Frozen Mysis, blood worms and formula one, as well as Hikari marine pellets and the live pods that are all over my glass).
Just yesterday after I did a water change, he started to hide out beside a piece of tonga branch rock. He does swim out every now and then and did eat when I dropped some pellets in.
Could that patch of dry skin be from the bigger perc attacking it (as it also has a little chunk missing of one of his bottom fins, which is a recent development) OR, Is it possible that the perc is changing into a male and thats whats causing the problem? Or should I take both of them out and put them in a hospital tank and treat with an anti-biotic for the skin problem?
I really like these percs. They are my first true percs after having Falsies in my last tank for 2 yrs. And it would be a devestating loss to my GF and I.
Oh yeah, My parameters are Temp: 79, pH: 8.4, Ammonia: 0, Nitrite: 0, Nitrate: 5, Alk: 2.5 mEq/L, Calc: is around 560. I have 130W of 10K PC lights and 24w of T5 Actinic. Tank has been up for almost 2 months. the only other inhabitants are an emerald crab, frogspawn, some GSP's, blue legged hermits and some ceriths.
Thanks!
