What type of clownfish are they? Commonly, the clownfish will ignore the anemone altogether. I have a friend whose Percula Clownfish have never shown interest in their anemone. Maroon Clownfish however nearly always host an anemone, in fact I have found with my pair that they only leave now when I feed them. A method I tried last year with my common (Ocellaris) Clownfish was to put a photograph of a pair of Clownfish in an anemone on the front of the tank. I had the anemone for about two years with the Clownfish in the tank and they never showed any interest in the anemone (common bubbletip, very unlikely for this type of Clownfish to host as they do not 'live' together in the wild) but within 1 week of having the photograph on the front of the tank they were hosting it. Their behaviour is very different to the Maroon Clownfish and leave it frequently to explore the tank.
